Starsa is the best.

Part of me hopes she gets to the point where she's comfortable creating a pink, hard light construct of herself and living as a..."normal person" sounds wrong, but it's the closest thing I have to what I'm trying to say. I want Starsa to go full Red Tornado in her sentience.

#12 - Queen Clea
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/4/8/AAUHRBAAETAw.jpg
Imagine you're kicked out of your house by your dad because you don't meet his strict, conservative standards as to what you should do, who you should be, what colors your hair is allowed to be dyed, etc. You sever contact, you find new family, new friends. Your entire life is forced to undergo a massive adjustment, and you manage it. For years, and years, you manage to improve your position from nothing, which is what your father left you with, and you flourish. You absolutely flourish. Then, when fate finally forces you back to your old hometown, you finally work up the gumption to confront your father... only to discover all of those old, once-rigid standards have gone out the window because, as it turns out, he's remarried. And the new woman is an absolute witch, capable of convincing dear awful dad that everything he's ever known is wrong. She's impossibly beautiful, definitely out of his league, and you can't help but wonder how she managed to do what the love of a father for a daughter never could.

It seems reasonable, until you realize this is the story of our resident Atlantean PC Minerva, and this mother is Queen Clea, the new regent potentate of the underwater city of Tritonis - and she, like Minerva, carries the telltale sign of the Curse of Kordax, blonde hair.

Queen Clea, man. Hoo boy. She's awesome. This is some powerful, high-class out-of-towner who, in the last few years, has managed to take advantage of Queen S'ona's untimely and rather mysterious death, foisting herself into the life of King Iqula. Seduction has led to a rapidfire marriage, well within the inappropriate time period which one should be seen mourning as a newly made widow, and the mer-kingdom of Tritonis suddenly finds itself with a new ruler. A warmonger ruler, one who has, impossibly enough, managed to convince the poor and rich, in their stratified social tiers, to come together for a war that is nebulous, one that likely cannot be possibly won. Iqula seems to float along with every decision as if, perhaps, he's been enchanted out of any inkling of sense. He's offered up most of his leadership, and handed over the fabled Lot of Tritonians. Oh, and in case you were looking for one of the Twelve Zodiac Crystals crafted by Arion and left to unlock a mythical vault beneath the throne of Atlantis itself, it's hanging around Clea's neck.

Everything's coming up Queen Clea, ain't it?

Man, man, man alive, I love Clea. I'm thrilled that she has nebulous origins that only add to the complexity, the general mystery of this powerful and unwanted stepmother. Minerva's flummoxed. Her friends are everywhere between shocked and filled with indignation. But no matter where you stand on Mom-Point-Oh, you can bet your ass that her role in the sprawling civil war for succession beneath the surface of the sea is going to be a doozy.

Hint: The last character before the top ten is also the highest remaining draft pick for their draftee!

Wait, WHAT!?

I had absolutely given up hope that Clea was placing. Whew. I was pretty much in the saltiest mood for the past while after that as well considering Clea has been involved in like... half of Minerva's RP since her introduction. Whether with other PCs or NPCs she's in such a bind because of the moral conundrum there is in her existence.

For the Cody/Maniac duo, we've had two sessions in Minerva's homeland of Tritonis, a city-state of Atlantis. The first one was introducing us to the city and the drop of news that Minerva's birth mother is dead by a few years and Iqula remarried not too long after. Minerva, using a mask that hides her hair as well, went into the city quite disguised and got the shellshocked news. There was a guard at the castle as well that she poked into the head of and he could hear Queen S'Ona's voice slightly through Minerva. We left soon after a meeting with the king that included Clea partially introducing herself, stating she wanted the group of PCs to look into her homeland, and waving her hand that kept Iqula even more obedient than he had been prior. Plus the other things Scar mentioned already.

Between sessions, Minerva went to talk to Scandal Savage who is like a Vizier to Minerva, helping her figure out some goals as a princess and future queen though also ever so slightly attempting to manipulate Minerva. Her advice were to try and find people that didn't really... like the queen. So their second trip involved moving about the city and talking to some residents. The military is completely under Clea, as she probably has that same mind control on the city's general, the public is in support of her, so the next step would be someone with likely undying loyalty to her Aquaman... Nope, also in support of Clea... While also trying to protect the city from equated fish that stem from Clea's homeworld. Besides Minerva's other smaller storylines, she is pretty much in a freak out mode about a single goal of taking the Tritonian throne once she has handed the Atlantean throne back to Aquaman... But Clea is a powerful woman who frankly is playing two sides of a moral compass.

On one hand, she's arming Tritonis for war against all other city-states and may be getting their soldiers killed outside of the gates. While also possibly letting equated merpeople into Tritonis to kill its citizens. And also has thrown the best ally Minerva could have in the city in jail in Lagoon Boy.
On the other hand, she's mind controlling Iqula and is potentially a very powerful mage in her own right so would be a very powerful ally if she's not to blame for her equated peoples and the deaths of soldiers outside city walls.

#11 - Eros
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/6/9/AAUHRBAAETBF.png
You ever miss a really important text? The sort that you wonder, "Hey, my life might be a little different if I'd felt my phone vibrate just ten minutes earlier."

The reason I ask is because, no matter what you say, your life couldn't have been as flummoxed as Eros, the Greek God of Love - and NOT Cupid. Eros slept through the buzzing of his godly, divine cell phone as Hermes shot him a message. The sort of message that reads, "Hey, Darkseid is fucking the planet, the Spectre is coming down hard on the rest of our kind, and we're vamoosing off to the Sphere of the Gods, sealing ourselves up inside like Shaun in Shaun of the Dead, and waiting for this whole thing to blow over."

Because Eros missed this text, he showed up about five minutes too late to the place where Themyscira, home of the Amazons, used to be. As he arrived, OMACs swarmed the island nation, murdering and slaughtering poor, unfortunate Amazonian warriors as Wonder Woman used the Lasso of Truth to send her people - and her gods - into the most holy, divine of dimensions. And Eros' only hope to escape this current crisis went with them.

Eros has been... adjusting to his new reality ever since. Firstly, with the seal placed across the Sphere of the Gods, his powers have waned to a point of metahuman strength rather than godhood. Secondly, he just spent a month with no company within the realm of Themyscira's ruins, aside from a goat and three kangas. He's clearly developed a chip on his handsome, immortal shoulder over all of this, and you could hear it from the moment the party met our dear, new friend. A friend who, with just the pluck of a few strings, can send your heart aflutter (like Data 7) or bring you to the brink of tears (like Bloodfruit). Such a skill, despite being only a fraction of Eros' overall powers just weeks before, is still quite valuable, you see, and so Eros was brought to Oblivion, set up with a room with a view, and now sits tight, practicing his lyre in early mornings and drinking with his old friend John Constantine at night.

I just have to say, I could play Eros for entire RP Days on end. He's an absolute joy in his absolute irritation. Here's a god learning to be mortal - and loathing every second of it. And yet, he's probably more well-adjusted than half of the reprobates hanging around the bar Oblivion. Maybe if we're lucky, he'll be willing to put on a show, sooner or later.

Hint: This will probably be a fairly large surprise.

I still enjoy that Minerva has not met Eros, but she did try to convince Chiron to come to Z'onn Z'orr by mentioning that Eros was there. But instead he's chosen to try and go to Egypt to help counteract the fact that Minerva had to tell King Scimitar about Freddy's current riddle, which means there will be Sabine forces in Egypt when that location is revisited.

#10 - Ragged Robin
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/2/2/AAJ38fAAEFsy.png

A revolutionary from the future, sent to the past to run an S&M cabaret club. She knows everyone; she's inspired Pepper to make a new drug simply by telling her she already knows that Pepper makes it. She's tough, confidence, sexy as hell, and she's the leader of Chicago's resistance.

Ragged Robin, a woman painted like a clown and wearing the sort of dominatrix outfit that even Catwoman passes on as too risque, is the perfect antithesis to the real power in Chicago - Desaad. Marquis de Sade versus a woman dressed in the trappings of sadism. It's like Grail vs. Grail, right? What I most enjoy about Ragged Robin is everything. Finally, an opportunity to inject the Invisibles into the mainstream DCU. We've seen hints of Fables, a good chunk of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, a heaping helping of Preacher and some signs of the Authority. Now it's time to bring in another classic Grant Johns creation, the Invisibles. In a session that predominantly focused on the Furies, on Varra de Luca and her relationship with her son, Ragged Robin is this fascinating cog that forces the wheels of Chicago's story to spin. Brennus is stuck in a rut otherwise, and the connections to Darkseid's right-hand man, the manufacturer of the Furies, might never move along if not for Robin's bordello of badassery. Beautiful women with unsettling stories surround Robin, who collects these dolls to add to her coterie, all aimed in the pursuit of toppling the second-in-command of the invading force on Earth. How does she find them? Is it her prescient knowledge from the future that provides a path? And if she's from the future... just who is this woman? Does her name describe her title? Is she a Robin? Or does the painted face suggest a certain clown prince of crime?

Or could she have a closer connection to someone in the party?

Man, here's the character with the most untapped potential in this half-year batch of debuts. Can't wait to get back to the Slaughterhaus on Netherside.

Hint: And here falls someone's last remaining draft pick.

#9 - Jenny Sparks
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/0/1/AAUHRBAAETGR.png
The Spirit of the 20th Century.

Jenny Sparks is a Century Baby, one of a very select number of children born on the 1st of January, 1900. For each year of the Twentieth Century, however, Jenny developed and grew based on the psychic and culture sensibilities of the time. In her twenties, she was a wild child, manic and irrepressibly the party girl to know. In the 30s, she suffered depression, drank herself into a stupor, and waited for the 1940s to roll around. She was a rebel in the 1960s and a stone cold bitch in the 1980s. You see, Jenny was the very embodiment of her century, right down to her power - the ability to utilize electricity. There was a Jenny of the 19th century, and there would be a Jenny of the 21st century. But from 1900 through 1999, there was Jenny Sparks, who died on December 31st, 11:59 p.m., 1999.

So... why is she here? First of all, the name might seem entirely foreign to most DC readers. Well, as it turns out, Jenny was the spirit of the Twentieth Century... of an alternate Earth. So a dead woman from an alternate reality stumbled into the spotlight in the 21st century of Earth-1? Kind of, sort of, courtesy of Kid Eternity. Jenny wormed her way into the party's hearts after first beating the snot out of Xander - it turns out she'd had a bad run-in with the Justice League once upon a time, and she'd never forgiven them for that - and when the time came for her to depart from the mortal realm once more... Well, here's the thing. Kid Eternity had given Bloodfruit an amulet. A very special amulet, it was, one that could allow a summon to go from a fleeting friendship to permanent companionship. The Spirit of the Twentieth Century was now back from the dead for good.

The most fascinating aspect of this drinking, smoking, carousing, irreverent woman is that she's MEANT to live in another era entirely. The fact she exists in the wrong century is quite alarming - she's the incarnation of a bygone time. Her birth was meant to coincide with its birth, her death with the dawn of the following century. What does this mean, now that she exists in the 21st? Well, that remains to be seen, I suppose.

Jenny also connects to a larger, more sinister arc - the story of Randall Dowling... which we'll talk about soon enough.

In the meantime, the least likely ally to the resistance against Darkseid is the girl in the Union Jack tank top and slim-cut jeans, angling to kick the Dark Lord's ass for the good of Mother England and Democracy. And if she has the chance to beat down on some sorry Justice Leaguer's ass in the offing, well, she won't complain.

Hint: Wedding bells are ring.

I was so sure Jenny was the number 1 ranking in this topic the way Han had gassed me up on her when she showed up, assuring me she was a favorite of Scar's and that we'd benefit from keeping her around with the Bleed potential she has. I bought in and Jenny is awesome, I expected to be a bit more awesome though.

I am going to hope this is Green Arrow because I'd rather Black Canary rank higher at this point.

I am going to hope this is Green Arrow because I'd rather Black Canary rank higher at this point.
I expect Canary to outrank Arrow

I did forget to mention that Jenny's Earth is extremely... different from the normal Earth. So constantly, pop culture references, movies, etc. are entirely removed from her vernacular, or they're different just enough that the inferences are lost on her. Or vice versa. It's very amusing.
