This might be a better line-up than the winners

Yeah 2020 didnt really have a runner-up as Nomadland dominated throughout awards season but The Trial of the Chicago 7 won SAG Ensemble (for which Nomadland was not nominated) and was the second favourite in betting odds so I went with that.

power of the dog > three billboards >>>>>>>> la la land > the revenant

power of the dog and three billboards were okay. LLL and revenant were miserable

Hm, overall I think I like the winners more than the runners up. The winners have a higher ceiling... but a lower floor for sure.

All Quiet > Roma > La La Land > Boyhood > 1917 > Gravity > Dog > Billboards > Trial
not seen Revenant.

I'm skeptical on whether these were the runners up, unless they were all #2 in the betting odds or something.

3 Billboards > Gravity > Chicago 7 > La La Land > Power of the Dog > All Quiet > Boyhood > 1917

This is an even weaker set than the winners I think? Nothing below Chicago 7 is good. 3 Billboards is really great though and it's too bad it didn't win.

I only checked betting odds for 2020 because it was so unclear and 2015 because there was also The Big Short winning PGA but:

Gravity - won DGA, tied for PGA, won the most awards on the night including Director, was seen as 50/50.

Boyhood - won GG, Critics Choice, BAFTA - arguably the favourite.

The Revenant - won DGA, GG, BAFTA.

La La Land - won nearly everything and got announced as the winner by mistake.

Three Billboards - won BAFTA and GG.

Roma - won BAFTA, DGA and Critics Choice.

1917 - won BAFTA, DGA, PGA, was arguably the favourite.

The Power of the Dog - won BAFTA, GG, DGA.

All Quiet on the Western Front - won BAFTA.

Only saw Boyhood, Roma, and All Quiet. Definitely a weaker set than the winners. Boyhood is my favorite but a lot of that is due to the production of the movie.

Hard choice between Boyhood and La La Land which are probably my favorite two movies of the past decade. The only other one I've seen is 1917 (which was pretty good).

Gravity is the worst of that list by a country mile. Brilliant score by Steven Price and one of the most accurate depictions of space in all science fiction. It's a success in those regards.

But what the fuck is with that screenplay
