Is this a bad sign?

I must have these answers.

I'd say 80% of jobs I've had have those as a regular thing. Some places, they're just a good way to chat with management and figure out where you're doing good, and where you'd like to improve.

Other jobs, it's a performative checklist where the manager is out of touch with what you actually do.

I'm not sure what exactly this is for you? In terms of how common or significant this is. Where I work we have evals twice a year so it sounds fairly normal to me?

I have my one on one coming up soon and its really no reason for alarm, which means a lot from me, the king of anxiety. Youd probably already know if you were on thin ice

In my experience, one-to-one evaluations are mostly just a prime opportunity to exchange feedback and ask for more money.

If nobody else has one, it might be something to be concerned about because your manager has somehow singled you out for closer scrutiny, but odds are it's just a matter of checking in with everyone to see how things are going.

Every employee at my job has them twice a month and it still feels like getting called into the principal's office every time I see it on my schedule

I've been at jobs where its a regular thing

At my current job the only time they want to talk to you is to chew you out

It sounds like a routine thing that hr or upper management requires. I don't think it's a sign of anything

I'm always paranoid when any management wants a one to one chat. Sometimes I'm right to think what I do but in most cases it's just routine.
