Out of the 3-4 I've seen? Probably Braveheart or A Beautiful Mind I guess? The Hurt Locker wasn't that bad either.

Here's a list of Best Picture awards for each year:

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?count=100&groups=oscar_best_picture_winners&sort=year%2Cdesc

None of my favorites are up there. But my favorite of the list is Gladiator (2000)

I find the Academy Awards to be a joke, and little more than an excuse for Hollywood to be pretentious and circle jerk over how awesome they think they are. Films that win Best Picture are rarely the actual best picture of any given year.

But of the ones that have actually won, I'd probably go with Return of the King. Because it's one of the few movies that shouldn't have won by their usual standards (it was a fantasy movie and wasn't pretentious enough), but won anyway because public support for it was so strong the Academy couldn't get away with snubbing it (even though they almost certainly wanted to).

Other choices for my subjective favorites probably include The Godfather, Gladiator, and Amadeus - though I wouldn't say all of those were the objectively best for their given year either.

Rambo 2008.

it won best picture by being the best. Doesnt need a bunch of clowns who sit in the tub and fart then bite at the bubbles to declare it the best.

Schlindlers List was very good, but thats not anyones favorite.

Probably Unforgiven. Great ensemble cast, and imo, Clint Eastwood's best acting and directing performance. Great deconstruction of the Hollywood western without being up its own ass.

It is a toss up between Return of the King, Braveheart, Gladiator, and The Silence of the Lambs. I really like Unforgiven, The Godfather (I and II) and Parasite as well. It should of been Pulp Fiction or Goodfellas as they both should of won for their respective years.

The Sound of Music, I guess.

If you expand it to include Academy Award nominees, it would have to be either Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It wasn't a surprise Forrest Gump won it was a cultural phenomenon when it came out. Sure over time Pulp Fiction has proven to be the more noteworthy film but that took quite a while. It might be the most popular role Tom Hanks ever did especially if we go by on time of release.

This coming from someone who has Tarantino in his top 5 greatest directors easily.
