Game prices have not been static since the 90's given the nature of DLC and microtransactions.

People will complain about the slippery slope, but games havent increased their price in a long time. Honestly shocked it took this long to get to 70. And with AAA games, those tend to go in the bargain bin after a few months anyways unless made by Nintendo.

Same. You can bet these same people complaining about the $10 increase in price have no issue throwing buckets of cash towards fast food, streamers, starbucks, etc

Phantasy Star 2 was $100 in the 90s, but that was also when a game that sold 100,000 copies was considered a monster hit.

In a vacuum I agree but the raise is just to pad executive pockets and raise sky high video game profits to new records so in that sense I cant justify it and I wont pay the $70 for a new game

Sucks, sure. But I don't buy enough games to really see ten bucks as a deal-breaker. I also anticipate that I'll be getting hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of this game; and in an ideal world where I could accurately gauge the volume of enjoyment I'd get out of a game before purchasing, I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for 'bigger' games.

Plus I already put in my anti-corporate greed dues by sitting out the last two Pokemon gens (and I'm sure Ninty's still reeling from the sting of it).

Ugh you'd think by now people would at least come with up with an argument for supporting this. I guess "I have disposable income" is enough of a reason but it's a pretty tone deaf reason. The increase sucks, especially since everything is getting more expensive. Personally I don't plan on buying any $70 games anytime soon, but don't be a jackass and go "it's only $10 calm down." That is a big deal and it sucks, whether you can afford it or not

Games have gotten far more complex than they used to be though. The cost to actually develop the games have gone up.

I don't care if they charge $70 for games like Elden Ring. Games that have the content and full package all contained in that one price.

And honestly, I pretty much only day one games like that, so it doesn't really effect me as much. I literally only got that and Dying Light 2 (Regret) day one last year.

But it's sad to know that they're gouging and taking advantage of others by raising the price of series they like while also still trying to nickle and dime them or make them feel like the balance is off by not buying even more once they get the game.

I 100% will not pay $70 for any game until I know there's not any microtransauctions that effect gameplay and pacing.

To be fair, most of the AAA costs are self-imposed, and outside of a few big titles many, many of them are poorly received these days. They basically went past the point of "throw money at it until it's good" to "throw money at it until it's good, then use the excess money to make it the worst thing ever made."

Most AAA games are built upon the infrastructure of games made years prior. Most of the money in game dev goes to advertising. Like COD for instance has a 4x marketing budget over their dev costs. Thats fucking ridiculous.

This additional $10 isn't going to mean we're getting better games, it just means that the fat cats in suits will pocket more money.

When you tack on DLC and microtransactions gaming hasn't been more expensive than it is now. Idk I think it's a wrong move to embrace or encourage increased pricing of games when there is no benefit to the consumer.
