People feeling unsafe doesn't mean the place is actually unsafe.

Given how much our media is doing their best to ensure we are terrified of the Muslim/Asian/Black population, of the refugees or trying to paint every Muslim as the shitstains that were protesting outside a school teaching children that gay people exist.

This is also coupled with a nationwide problem of the police where we have now had several women raped and killed by serving police officers, so I don't really blame any women for feeling unsafe. Harassment is also an issue faced across the country and it is entirely shit. Been harassed myself far too many times, even in my nurses uniform (and not just antivax crap) but I've also suffered it, and have friends subjected to it, across the entire country.

I just don't think it's something unique to the Midlands, but a national problem.

The most common crimes in Birmingham are violence and sexual offences, with 78,062 offences during 2021, giving a crime rate of 67. This is 38% higher than 2020's figure of 56,402 offences and a difference of 18.67 from 2020's crime rate of 49. Birmingham's least common crime is bicycle theft, with 1,057 offences recorded in 2021, an increase of 0.96% from 2020's figure of 1047 crimes.

It wasn't like a year or two before the war. I was going through some 2020 forums stuff a few months back because I was looking for something, and kept running into people bringing up nazis in Azov and the general white nationalist problem Ukraine has.

I get why people wouldn't readily be willing to criticize them as much as they were, but it's pretty absurd how tilted people get if you bring up stuff they were saying literally months prior and start calling you a secret KGB infiltrator

You realize Russia has been pumping out propaganda around Ukraine's "Nazi problem" since 2014 (at the latest), right? Like, their entire basis for claiming they have to denazify the country to protect ethnic Russians is part of a campaign they've spent a decade building towards.

Yeah. None of this stuff ever feels like a story to me. It feels like "Oop, they found the person to try to make an example out of or use to generalize everyone else they can associate". There's always gonna be that person there. It's about how we let that influence the rest of our thoughts.
