The only game on this list I have played is Neon White, so, that by default. The only games I could possibly like more if I played them all would be Xenoblade or Stray but I haven't played any Xenoblade sequels at all and the cat game seems like gimmicky fun but not GotY material.

Oh, yeah, somehow my brain just completely glossed over that. It is up my alley but Telling Lies was pretty disappointing and the retro film aesthetic isn't really my thing either so I haven't been super enthused about this one, but I'll probably try it at some point. I still wouldn't expect it to rate higher than Neon White though.

I think elden ring was the only new game I played this year, so that by default I guess. I got really sick of it halfway through and gave up in the snow area

Anyway that could've been my pick for a while but.............. Hm, not sure actually. I feel my answer will be dishonest until i get around to citizen sleeper at least, as well as the giant number of notable (mostly square) jrpgs i haven't started either. For now though, I might as well tentatively say a game I don't by any particular means consider the best game I played this year, but the one I've had the most fun in by a considerable margin. And that's Legend of Neverland, which exited early access/had a global release a few months ago. As soon as my new phone arrives you should hopefully find me back on the NA20 server, representing the rogue bard guild DragonPoncho. We tend to go around the server looking for new map exploits (okay this is mostly just me) and playing custom midi vgm wherever others are. Also engaging in the many forms of dailies of course, though we're far from the power guild (especially not now that i've had to take near a month off)

guild shilling aside though yeah i've been having a lot of fun in that, it has far less in common with genshin than the haters claim and already has basically peak levels of content for a phone mmo with like 50 different forms of stat progression (and dailies). The custom music feature (where you can call people over to play individual instruments in midis you add) is definitely my favourite thing about it though, as well as the fun physics exploits you can use to get out of bounds (and perform in places you're not meant to)

I accidentally clicked God of War apparently when I voted. I even expected it to be GoW considering how much I love the 2018 game. But...I think Sony's 1st party AAA formula is getting old no matter how much you do to make that type of experience the best it can be. Elden Ring is just something else entirely and definitely an all-timer for me. I find I'm appreciating that game more and more.

I'm only 25 hours in GoW though and doubt even halfway with the story with how many side quests I've been doing, but right now, there should be -1 on God of War and +1 on Elden Ring.
