I'll never understand Judo.

It's so hard on the body. Sure, learning how to throw people around sounds useful* , but not at the cost of getting thrown around yourself so someone else can learn too.

*useful in a way, many of those throws don't work with street clothes

So post. Much gamefaqs. Wow.

This is why we practice on tatami and not, like, sidewalk or something. Although knowing how to breakfall has saved my ass on slippery sidewalks. Also, we do practice no gi stuff, too. This isn't IJF nonsense, it's that old shit from before judo was 90% standup.

so far, ouchigari's been the most useful to me of the standard techniques. I find that if I can get a hug in, I'm in complete control and can throw at my leisure. The problem is that this worked for one class, and now no one is letting me hug them.

How come BJJ has been regarded as a superb self defense MA for a while but Judo has always been under the radar? Even in the 80s and 90s when people still thought kung fu and taekwondo worked Judo was never seen like BJJ is seen.

Serious question, since I see Judo as basically stand up BJJ
