General Poll, sorry for the big other category but the original 9 from SMK/64 are probably gonna take most of the slots.

Mines probably Toad?

Koopa when he's available, otherwise Yoshi. Koopa+Diddy was my Double Dash team of choice.

When I consider how much I've probably played each entry and who I've mained in each one.... I think it's gotta be Toad and it's probably not even remotely close. Rosalina is probably a very, very distant second.

Wario or Shy Guy are probably number 2. And that's with the vast majority of my playtime coming from MK64 and Super Mario Kart, the former only being in MK64 and the latter being in neither.

Voted Toad. I haven't always stuck to the same character between entries. I'd usually pick Toad or Toadette in MK Wii, which is probably the mainline game I've played the most. I picked Toad a good bit of the time in SMK and some of the other ones, so he probably wins out.

Also played a lot of Tour, but for that one, you kind of need to use different drivers anyway, so I dunno if anyone would beat Toad there.

I never really had a "main" when playing Mario Kart. I liked to use everyone.

My most played Mario Kart is Double Dash.
I play Bowser/Jr. or Wario/Waluigi for their special item. Giant green shell and bombs are the most exiciting unique item.

Mario until the Koopalings were in. Then I switched to Ludwig.

Overall it's Wario since N64 is my most played Mario Kart game by far. Post N64 it's Daisy.

Boring Luigi player here for most games. His death glare in MK8 is just icing on the cake.

Boring Mario player here, carryover from the MK64 days when my friends desperately wanted to play as Yoshi, Toad and Peach and I could never handle heavyweight racers so I just defaulted to Mario.

Carried forward to MKWii and MK8D where I'm always just Mario, Standard Kart/Everything...

It might be Yoshi since I mained him back in the day, but I have played so much MK8 as Bowser Jr. that I can't imagine he hasn't surpassed him by now.

although it also gave Link, Inking, and Villager so those have been my mains since... I now swap between Inking / Villager

My favorite is Mario. But I use Toad all the time, maybe even more. Love the sharp turners.

My favorite heavy is Bowser though. Hes my bruiser when too many of my buddies go small.

my answer is very different per game but Wario in 64 is probably my most consistent usage and 64 is probably my most played MK

Cat Peach/Inkling Girl in MK8

Did not play the other entries nearly as much and generally used a variety of characters in them

By the sheer amount of hours I poured into Mario Kart Wii time trials...it's Funky Kong. Excluding that, meaning outside of time trials where I'm not going to use who is ever the best for a miniscule speed advantage, I use Donkey Kong.

Yeah Mario Kart 64 had weight classes (light, middle, heavy), but even within the classes each character had subtle differences. IIRC from lightest to heaviest it went:

Toad > Peach > Yoshi >>> Mario > Luigi >>> Wario > Donkey Kong > Bowser

Mostly just played 64 so its either Bowser or Yoshi

Yoshi. I have a bit of a story to tell on this one. I got my first console when I was 7--it was the Nintendo DS. I had Mario Kart DS but hadn't played it yet at the time. One time, I brought over my DS to a family dinner and let my cousins play with my DS. They decided to play my copy of Mario Kart DS that I had brought over. They showed me how to play it, and I distinctly remember that both of them used Yoshi. After learning how to play the game, I became addicted to it for a while, and because my cousins both played Yoshi, that was my character of choice almost all the time. Even after moving on to play other Mario Kart games like Mario Kart Wii, I still usually mained Yoshi.

MK 64. Those are the three fastest characters in that game and are generally the three characters speedrunners use.
