No idea what it is or for what reason, but yes. I think more people should stand for their beliefs and stop just "going with it". Honestly most of the problems in the world for the middle and lower classes are due to people "Just living with it"

Can you provide more details? Is this freight or passenger trains? I thought freight trains had a chemical toilet in the front of the loco.

I know it's about rail freight, but IDK if passenger trains are in the same union in the US.

There's some info here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/11/28/rail-strike-biden-congress/

and some there: https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/26/economy/railroad-strike-holidays-economic-impact

But ya, the pooping thing was the LAST strike... they had to poop in bags before that

This strike is about sick leave

Them poor workers live on the road. And are on call all the time. They cant drink or relax. Sure they get paid well but iv seen stories where people work 24 hours then get a cab to a hotel then sleep for 4 hours then get called out again

The batshit schedule is one of the reasons I refused to go back after I was furloughed. But as for the post-work time off, its federally regulated (at least in the US). For instance, for Norfolk Southern at least, if you were technically working on the clock for 24 hours (which Ive seen) youd get the required ten hours off plus an hour for every hour you exceed a 12 hour duty day. So 22 hours before you were allowed to work again. What sucks is that 22 hours might be sitting in a hotel and who knows when the next job is set to roll around again.

Ive heard good things about the locals and short lines.

it seems to be the Class 1s that a lot of workers hate.

Do I support the strikes? No. Striking is socialist. America is not socialist. At best the strikers are misguided. At worst they are committing treason against America, and therefor treason against God and PRESIDENT Donald Trump. They are also crisis actors being directed by George Soros and Hillary HUSSEIN Clinton(LOCK HER UP) I fully expect PRESIDENT Donald Trump to direct the military to put down this violent socialist coup.

Yes. It's exposed how cruel railroad workers are treated. Which is insane, considering how the country relies on rail for virtually everything.

A rising tide should float all boats, so any strike that appears justified (i.e. most of them) should be supported.

At the same time the government should absolutely step in to keep the country functioning, hopefully by using some leverage to get the railroads to be reasonable.

That said, as a government employee who needs to work with railroads regularly, I can vouch that they believe that their land grants and critical function allow them to do whatever the heck they want and 'reasonable' isn't in their vocabulary. Here's guessing the railroads say something to the effect of "You need our workers? You can certainly pay them for us if you'd like" ...and get yet another sweetheart deal from the government in the process.

That was kinda going to be my follow up question, in why the hell any random American would be against the rail workers, here. Unless you're one of the handful of railroad tycoons, this doesn't affect anyone else one way or another.

Oh, bonus points, every House GOP member (save for 3) voted against the workers. Shocker. It's nothing short of amazing that millions vote for the Right, when they have nothing but active disdain against their voters.

No. I support a unions right to strike only if the company also has the right to call their bluff and fire them. And sadly in most cases they dont due to labor laws from the FDR era (what an awful person he was btw). This is a blatant violation of freedom of association.

But this particular strike I support because its demonstrating just how inept Robinette Biden is.

Yeah, I'm watching a bunch of exceedingly dumb 'progressive' (black-pilled, jaded) social media accounts blame the Democrats. Even NPR's coverage is vague and blames Biden. Like yo, can you please show us the votes? Oh right, every Dem voted for 14 sick days, and 0 Republicans did. Couldn't pass the Senate. Now they've negotiated for less. Everyone shitting all over Democrats don't acknowledge that having 10 more of them would eliminate these problems. And believe me, I'd like to see them gone too, but...maybe stay focused on the Christian Nationalist party first there folks.

Just to correct myself somewhat here - I do blame Biden for forcing the strike to not happen - they should have the right to strike. Forcing the deal with that concession (leaving off the 7 sick days) isn't right, negotiation should continue, even if it wittles down the sick days. Although somehow I don't see any Republicans voting for any sick days...idk it's completely fucked. I still stand behind saying that if Democrats had more votes (the clear 60 majority needed), this just wouldn't happen, as evidenced by the actual votes.
