39. Eddie Deacon (aka Flippy)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/8/0/AAS3NhAAD8iM.png

Poor Flippy. Ya know, after playing a character scorned by society for his appearance for all of campaign 1, you'd think I'd avoid inflicting the same kind of mockery onto another character now, but honestly I just can't remember his real name more often than not. But that's hardly a me thing, its rare to see anyone actually refer to Flippy by his real name (including the narrator!) and he seems mostly used to it.

Flippy, the resident barkeep of the Oblivion Bar, is a bit of an understated character, but that's part of what I like about him. He's a constant. One of the most stable constants of all of Z'onn Z'orr, next to only Waller and Snapper that I can really think of. He's a friendly guy that puts up with a lot of shit from a lot of people (myself included, pretty often) but is always there to still serve you a glass of orange juice (or beer, if you've got no taste) when you most need it.

Hint for #38: This is a character I've gotten mixed up with another at least once

38. Brother Eye

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/2/5/AAOJ0pAADbAB.png

I'm a sucker for a mysterious, faceless entity pulling the wires behind the scenes. Is Mockingbird an enemy? Probably! He(?)'s pulling ths strings behind the not-so-sinister Secret Six... wait, no, that's the other mysterious faceless entity.

Brother Eye is one half of the AI vs AI secret war happening behind the scenes of the OMACs, the One Mutant Army of Crobots that fly overhead in many of the world's most dangerous major cities. The OMACs were once people before being infected by nanomachines or something; the fae-born Bloodfruit can absolutely not explain the science behind it, but they're essentially John Carpenter's The Thing if The Thing was a robot that could secretly be infecting any random person and turn them into a mass-murdering super-bot. The Thing was a bad analogy, I'm realizing as I type this. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is more accurate.

ANYWAY Brother Eye was (is?) part of the creation of the OMACs, but has turned against Darkseid, leaving the robots under the control of another, eviler AI named Mother Miracle. At least, that's what Brother Eye says, but Brother Eye is one of the biggest Riddler statue question marks of the campaign. Quite possibly the ally more likely to turn against us than any other, but also WAY too dangerous to make an enemy of.

Unfortunately, Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

Hint for #37: Brother Eye is an ally by necessity, of questionable trustworthiness. This character, on the other hand, is totally absolutely 100% trustworthy by choice no questions asked

37. Demon of the Poster

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/7/1/AAS3NhAAD8wH.jpg

Only five rankings later and we already have another Demon! Now I don't believe anyone's ranked him yet for SOME reason, so I'll give a brief overview of the guy.

So our gang of misfits and whatnot are exploring the streets of Baltimore, and we end up in The Poe House, the real world museum and once home of writer Edgar Allen Poe. Now, the house is occupied by a man named Merritt. I'm gonna throw in a quick HM to Merritt himself

HM: Merritt

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/7/2/AAS3NhAAD8wI.jpg

because despite only being an extremely short-lived character, Merritt immediately left a strong impression. The man speaks entirely in poems and rhyme, themed much after Poe himself. His poetic speech patterns hide a dark story though, as he's done terrible things in exchange for immortality in service of a demon.

Who is this demon? We still don't really know!

Inside The Poe House is a poster, and before we realize it we're inside a massive hellscape inhabited by one being. The Demon of the Poster. He won't tell us his name, and despite multiple prodding by Bloodfruit since then, he still hasn't given it up. As we all know, names have power.

He claims to be a ruler of Hell trapped within the realm of the poster, and cannot return home unless we manage to destroy the poster from within Hell, in exchange for untold reward. In a time where all worlds are under duress, we need any help we can get, and Bloodfruit ultimately christens our deal as an official Fae deal. When we return to the human realm, Merritt's deal for immortality is broken and he dies immediately. RIP our boy.

The Demon himself is an enigma. Can we trust him? Absolutely fucking not. He's literally a demon, and never even claims to be a friendly one. Again, we still don't have his name. But in that lack of trust is an exciting dynamic. He needs us more than we need him. We are his only hope, and in that hope is power. Power that Bloodfruit immediately took advantage of to make mock him to his face.

Was that a good idea? Absolutely fucking not, but she will always continue to push limits. And between meeting Blue Devil and seeing Torcher,

HM: Torcher

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/7/3/AAS3NhAAD8wJ.png

a demon slowly dying in our sickbay, Bloodfruit can't help but wonder if a true ally can be made of the Demon. Probably not. But maybe.

Hint for #36: This is another character that hasn't been seen in the last at least 100+ sessions.

That's a really interesting ranking! That was such a dangerous move by Bloodfruit - she's been a little suicidal lately. She's definitely pushing boundaries; I wonder if she's just so put-off by the idea of having to go back to the Fair Lands, and this is her way to forget it, or exorcise those fears she's dealing with.

There's definitely a few things that contribute to it. With Bloodfruit, a big chunk of her mindsight still remains in the idea that she has nothing to lose, even if that's objectively not true anymore. This is paired with a general fae sense of invincibility, as well as lingering remnants of actual invulnerability in my playstyle from my time as Obrov. And yeah, the lingering dread of returning to the Fair Lands and what that might ultimately mean for her has only amplified that sense of act first, worry about the consequences if and when they arrive.

36. Fiddler

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/3/2/AAcguBAADoHM.jpg

One of the original Six Secreters we met, and perhaps the biggest, most shocking sacrifice we've seen all campaign (though they have been a handful of contenders since). It was a self-sacrifice so powerful that everyone following this topic from outside the campaign probably already knows about it. Its effects have been felt constantly, despite happening about 150 sessions ago.

Our time with the Fiddler was short, but his dynamic never fell flat. To an extent, he was the heart of the Secret Six during its early days. Catman and Deadshot at each others throats, Cheshire secretly plotting against everyone, Scandal being a bit self-interested, and Ragdoll... ya know, being Ragdoll, left Fiddler in the unique position of shooting straight with us and the rest of his team. He was the one, possibly more than any others in the 6 at that point, truly striving to be something better. And maybe that's just rose-colored memories boosting him up, but that's what an incredibly done self-sacrifice can do for a player.

We were surrounded and desperate and without a moment's hesitation he was blasting his soundwaves against the masses, knowing he was outnumbered and hopeless, all so his ragtag group of villains-turned-relunctant-heroes could go on to do something better themselves. With just one act, Fiddler cemented himself as one of the greatest people we've come across.

35. Ragdoll

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/6/6/AAOJ0pAADaOq.jpg

I didn't intend of having multiple sixers back to back, but sometimes that's just how things work out.

Ragdoll is one of the first Secret Sixers we met, and probably the one who is the closest now to how he was when we first met him. It's no secret that I tend to click with the bizarre, comedic characters, and from the moment we met the Secret Six, I just kinda wanted to hang out with the weird masochistic contortionist.

During our night spent at the Secret Six's original headquarters, all the PCs end up wandering the halls, going about various adventures and nonsense. Taliesin chose to spend his night bedding the soon-to-be enemy, while Bloodfruit somehow ended up in Ragdoll's empty room, stumbling upon a sight that was absolutely bloody and gruesome, with a variety of violent bits and weaponry scattered throughout what was once a bedroom. Bloodfruit of course made herself right at home in the less mundane quarters, and it turned out to be a good decision, as the morning saw us being stormed by the traitorous Cheshire's forces, allowing Bloodfruit to hide as a dead body among the madness of the room.

Ragdoll is a hilarious character, violent against himself and withholding daddy issues on par with Brennus. Much about him seems unnatural and impossible; the extents to which he will bend and harm himself for fun would be disgusting if he wasn't just so enjoyable to have around.

34. Manitou Raven & Manitou Dawn

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/3/3/AAS3NhAAD9bR.png https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/8/0/AAQcMAAADjm4.jpg

Han, for your stats and such just go ahead and count this as a Manitou Dawn ranking, but frankly, I don't feel right ranking one without the other.

Everyone talks about Fiddler's great sacrifice (myself included), but not enough love goes to Manitou Raven, who, in our gruelling fight against Anithesis, ultimately died to help us all escape with our lives. Raven was a unique take on superheroism, a mystic much more in tune with his land and people and what it means to protect than the average superpowered crimefighter. And when he died, that mantle was passed onto Manitou Raven as she survived the fight and returned to Z'onn Z'orr with us.

Dawn, much like Bloodfruit herself, was something of an outsider upon arrival in Z'onn Z'orr. Her ways of communication are sometimes strained, not quite a language barrier but really a barrier of mutual understanding at times. Now while I haven't put the time into talking with Dawn that characters like Rozetta and Data have, I've greatly enjoyed the little connection I've gotten to make with her, and still intend to further it still when given the chance.

Most importantly, though, this is a character that Scarlet obviously enjoys playing, and it comes through in the way Dawn tells her stories, her tales feeling simultaneously crafted and effortless. It's often obvious when a player or dm is enjoying what they're doing, and that ultimately make for a better experience for everyone around them.
