Do we still need an intro post? You've probably seen these topics pop up from Han, MI, War, Inviso and Ermine, but there are 9 B8ers (+1 nonb8er) in the campaign so you'll probably still see a few more (and let's be honest, if you're in this topic, you're probably one of those 9 or you're one of the 3 people that's been following along for the last 5 topics. Well, this is going to be another one of those. There are like 20,000 characters in the campaign, these are (roughly) my favorite 52(ish) of them.

To be clear, my topic was ranking the indisputable best 52 DC characters of all time, not just from Scarlet's game.

So, just a bit of intro on me and the characters I've played in the campain(s). I'll preface the list by saying that I'm fully aware I've become known for not always keeping up with stuff the way some others do, whether it being me forgetting major reveals, not having the attention span to keep up with rp, etc. None of that should be representative of my enjoyment of the campaign (I wouldn't have stuck around for, jesus, how long has it been? 4 years? At least?) but it may result in me occasionally not remembering details or misspeaking (and I'm still not entirely sure what Four Corners is).

In campaign 1, I played as Obrov Netvor, an absolutely massive and disfigured man who, after a life of societal isolation and years of experimental, mind-crushing torture at the hands of Dr. Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow, was left mentally and physically scarred but with an absolute tank of a body. I think Scarlet once referred to him as a mix of the Elephant Man and Resident Evil's Nemesis, and that's pretty accurate! With superhuman strength, resistance and durability (and lacking a bit in the intelligence and charisma department), Obrov would handle most situations by running directly at them, Juggernaut-style. One time he fought a supervillain on a motorized glider miles above the city of Gotham, only to defeat the villain AND destroy the glider in the process, sending him hurtling down to the surface and destroying a major bridge in the process. One time he actually went to hell! But through everything he survived, learned to forgive, joined the Metabrawl, found friends, got possessed by a knife, adopted a pig, pretended to be JFK, and eventually became a hero in his own right, ending the campaign as the newest member of the Doom Patrol.

The best part about pretending to be JFK is that we recently met an alien who WAS JFK. Like, the actual guy.

JB probably also doesn't know this.

The best Obrov not knowing things moment in campaign 1 was when there was a big reveal that a guy named Dirk Dawson was actually Batman, and Obrov didn't know and kept looking for Dirk Dawson

For campaign 2, I wanted to go as opposite from Obrov as possible. So what's the opposite of a giant, lumbering monster of a man? A fairy! Enter Bloodfruit:

Bragha Aisling was a happy-go-lucky resident of the legendary Fair Lands. A fae with beautiful wings, rainbow-hued skin and without a care in the world. That is, of course, until she dared to steal an unassuming amulet from the vengeful Queen Titania. Titania was merciful, of course, and let her live... in exchange for her very identity. Her wings, her hair, her very name were stripped from her, making her an eternal servant to the queen and leaving her a broken husk of what she once was. Unable to live in such a way, the nameless fae took her amulet, whatever flourettes she could get her hands on, and fled, somehow ending up lost in the alleys of London, forced to resort to selling mystical fairy blood to get by. Eventually, she, like the rest of the heroes of the campaign, is captured, rescued, and made a member of Checkmate, where she takes upon the title of Bloodfruit! (A name that's particulary on the nose, as her blood is literally replenished by the consumption of fruit juice). In Checkmate, her wings have begun to grow back, and her amulet has begun to react quite strangely, bestowing upon her mysterious powers of colored light manipulation and a peculiar ability to detect emotion in others. Here, she has joined the Oblivion Bar as a resident alchemist, donating her rare blood to help keep the bar's magical defenses running. Ultimately though, she's still deep down a terrified runaway, forever cautious that Titania or her people may one day come to reclaim her lost property.

so, one of Obrov's big things (if it wasn't obvious from the pictures) is that he's always wearing a mask. Usually just a default Scarecrow-inspired rag that boosts his intimidation, but eventually he comes across a JFK mask and immediately, and eventually, one thing leads to another and he's trying to convince Spoiler (who goes on to become Batgirl in Campaign 2) that he's the real JFK. It didn't work very well! But also better than it should've? I even included it in a little epilogue picture

5'10" so average human height. Most of the major fae are basically average size (though some like flitlings are much smaller, closer to the size of Crazy Shy Lolita Canary)

52. Lady Spellbinder

It's probably been made obvious by now, but this campaign has an absolutely shitload of characters. So many characters that someone who's had 100s of hours of dialogue with one player might be nearly unrecognizable to another (namely me, because as I stated my memory of names is pretty bad and I don't usually read other people's scenes). What does often stick out in my memory in specific moments and scenes that I associate with myself having an emotional response of some sort.

Anyway, onto Lady Spellbinder. I tried with pretty much every character on this list to separate them from their No Man's Land appearance in campaign 1, if that was potentially a factor. It's usually not. With Lady Spellbinder, it's tricky to do that, because she was a hilarious campaign who stole the wish of a demon to give herself incomprehensible mountains of cocaine.

Cue campaign 2, we're coming toward the back half of Warpath, the first half of which we spent meeting Jesse Custer and fighting a giant sock robot, among other exciting nonsense. All this culminates in a chase scene worthy of Mad Max, with half the team riding off chased by the Trigger Twins (also from campaign 1) on a bus while besties Bloodfruit and Brennus chased Lady Spellbinder around a desert canyon on motorcyles, each casting out their own magical bindings at each other. Brennus and I were having perhaps our biggest thrillride up to that point in the campaign while elsewhere, Taliesin was dying (the first and only player character to die in either campaign, rest in peace).

Lady Spellbinder ended up becoming something of a symbol for me of one of the most exciting moments I've experienced in the campaign. Warpath is still pretty easily a top 5 session for me, and a huge extent of that was because of her. She's still alive, right? I'm pretty sure she is.

51. Mockingbird

I'm a sucker for a mysterious, faceless entity pulling the wires behind the scenes. Is Mockingbird an enemy? Probably! He(?)'s pulling ths strings behind the not-so-sinister Secret Six, and his true motivations for doing so are either unclear OR I missed them, both are equally possible.

He always knows more than everyone else. Also, fun fact: Bloodfruit at one point claimed to go by Mockingbird when meeting an overseas version of the Secret Six. The claim fell a little flat, not getting a rise but just some general confusion. Bloodfruit was embarrased. But the fact that there are multiple Mockingbird across multiple incarnations of the same team in the world only further pushes the mystery of the faceless tv static man.

Hint for #50: This character is in space

I don't think you've missed anything, yet. Mockingbird remains the shadowy figure they've always been! Cool to see a ranking there.

I could see this being Herupa Hando Hu.

You know I have to say I really empathize with having a bad memory while roleplaying. I've been in a long running DnD campaign since like 2016, and I take excessive notes because I will immediately forgot characters, locations etc. while playing. They are a mess but having it written down helps immensely.

Pretty sure my notes are over 2000 pages for this campaign so far

I take notes but they're trash compared to what Han and MI provide

I used to do notes for the big areas, but MI took over that one too

I guess I can be drunk uncle
