Question for Americans: given the doom over Florida, which happens first?

Democrats retake at least one of Ohio/Iowa or Democrats retake Florida?

Third option: The Democrats flip Texas sooner than they retake any of those.

And it'll be about ten more years before that happens.

Republicans are not going to just stop social security payments. What they might conceivably do is stop collecting social security taxes and print a ton of money to cover the payments. Then, if it's looking like that's creating a bubble that's about to burst, do everything in their power to make sure the burst happens when the Democrats are in office. Then blame everything on the Democrats.

Too bad they had to replace all the perfectly working machines from the audit. Maybe wouldn't be having so many issues. Hope the Republicans are proud of the amount of money they spent just for this to happen.

County ballot measure
Fetterman/ oz
House race (where Republicans ran an entirely unqualified guy because he shared a first and last name with the retiring democrat who has been representing this area forever)
Governor
State house race
One other local race that i don't remember because it was unopposed

For me there were something like ten statewide offices (gov, lt gov, AG, SoS, controller, insurance commissioner, state superintendent, treasurer), like 15 yes/no votes on judicial appointments, House, Senate x2 (for the next term and for the rest of the current term since Padilla was appointed by Newsom), state assembly, a few local races (including school board and rent board which were vote for up to 3 or 5), and then like seven state ballot props and four local ones

It's pretty dumb; in particular, it's way too easy to get a proposition on the ballot in CA. Like this is the fourth election in a row where we're voting on a dialysis clinic regulation (not exactly something that I'd say is an appropriate question to bring directly to the voters) because a union is trying to pressure the dialysis clinics.

And it's why we're so absolutely fucked. Any woman who says "Abortion is important... but gas prices!" is 100% to blame for it when women die because of this law, and they need to be held to count for it when the time comes. Same goes for when they take away rights from LGBT people, when they erode voting rights further, when they cut healthcare. I hope people will continue reminding them how fucking stupid they are.

Any woman has the absolute right to prioritize gas prices over abortion. Any LGBT person has the absolute right to prioritize gas prices over LGBT rights. You will not get anywhere by blaming people for exercising their right to vote how they want.

Inflation is a pretty big deal, it makes sense that that would be the top priority for many voters (not that electing Republicans would actually improve the situation). It's a much better reason to vote than typical R boogeymen; it's a real problem at least.

Out of inflation, recession, and war, I think inflation is clearly the least bad! So people who say that things have never been this bad have lost their sense of perspective. And of course electing Republicans won't stop inflation.

Not when it comes to voting. Inflation is not something politicians can push a button and fix. Inflation has so many complex factors involved it's stupid to vote based on it. Sure, it's a real issue. But it's also a real issue that can't be simply fixed by a change in power. And that people think it is, is exactly why this country is so fucked up beyond belief.

They can't press a button and instantly fix it, but they can influence it (most notably, both raising taxes and cutting spending would put downward pressure on inflation; there are also other things the president can do to affect it a bit like reducing tariffs). Part of the reason inflation got this bad was that in retrospect the ARP was probably too big, though of course if they had undershot instead of overshot we could have had a recession instead which would have been worse.

In many countries there is almost no divide on womens issues based on gender. In the abortion referendum in Ireland for instance, men and women voted basically the same. This makes sense as its about social factors not innate factors to your gender. However, the US has a much bigger political split between men and women than other countries because its just like that.

Technically if Republicans could get the massive cuts in government spending they always ask for then that might actually put a dent in inflation. But a) it wouldn't work if they also passed tax cuts at the same time and b) voters wouldn't want spending cuts that large once they find out what exactly needs cut.

Back when I was a republican I really believed in this ideal low government spending paradigm

Then the Republican party made it pretty obvious that they only wanted low government spending on poor people and were happy to offset it with subsidies to corporations and rich people and that was part of the reason I noped out

My understanding is that it's the worst in Europe because they're much more affected by the war in Ukraine, but that the US has worse inflation than non-European first world countries. The supply chain stuff was global, but that's not to say that we couldn't have had a few % lower inflation if we had perfectly calibrated our economic response to covid (which, yes, was bipartisan).
