I hate basic Mahjong with a passion. The best I've ever done is reach a draw 10 times in a row before giving up. I can't seem to get lucky enough to get the tiles I need. I hate RNG based minigames.

Mahjong is a LOT to learn and beating the highest end stuff in Yakuza without any experience is a pretty steep hill imo.

But it's also super fun.

Don't make any chi/pon/kan calls until you're sure you know you're doing. Calling dragons is almost always safe, and calling winds if you know which ones you're calling is fine, but beyond that, don't open your hand unless you're sure you know what the end result will be.

Otherwise, a beginner can easily render their hand unwinnable. As I learned when playing mahjong porn games.

To be fair, 2p (1v1) mahjong will help with memorizing the hands, but not so much with teaching good habits like reading discards and recognizing safe/dangerous tiles.

I'm not what happened at the end there (I assume it's a special hand), but nice!

All Green = special yakuman (maximum point) hand where your entire hand is 2, 3, 4, 6, 8-bamboo, and/or green dragons. The other bamboo numbers have some red in them, hence they're disqualified.

Rinshan Kaihou = Calling kan means your hand has an extra tile in it, so you draw from a special pile called the dead wall to balance it out. If what you draw completes your hand, it's worth a bonus point (han). In this case, I needed a 3-bamboo to complete my 2-4 meld, and that's exactly what I drew after calling kan on the 6-bamboo.

Since All Green is already a max scoring hand, the Rinshan Kaihou is just flair and doesn't actually add anything. But Rinshan Kaihou is a lucky/stylish move as it is.

I played Rummy once in my life (it was at work and somehow won lol), but I forget the rules. Never even touched Baccarat except in Yakuza Kiwami 1 for a Haruka request, which I just brute forced my luck until I got it.

Like if an opponent Richii's and you are more than like 1-2 tiles from completing a hand its best to just trash your hand and make the most safe discards possible to avoid losing any points

Same. I ignored mahjong in the games until Judgement. After watching a couple videos, playing several hands in the game, and bugging CyricZ with a couple questions, the basics clicked with me. I enjoy playing it even though I don't know anything outside of the basics.

My biggest mistake at the beginning was thinking my discard pile was the hand I was trying to make to win the game. Lol

lol. My biggest mistake, when I would randomly try it on a whim, is thinking I should Chi and Pon everytime it comes up. I had no clue what I was doing or knew it made it harder to get a better score at the end.

Another good tip for ya. Say you have a 3 and 5 tile looking for a 4. If you get a 6, discard the 3 tile. You now have a 5 and 6 looking for either a 4 or 7. Higher chance of completing your set/meld if you're trying for a 456 or 567 rather than just a 345.

Shit, I can't Chi to victory?

I have:
Pair of 5 Bamboo
2-3-4 Circle Meld
5-6-7 Circle Meld

and I Chi'd:
7-8-9 Bamboo
1-2-3 Bamboo

but when I Chi'd for the final meld, it's asking me to discard. So even tho I have a finishing hand, I can't win like this?

lol I chi'd 2 more times and it still made me discard. Literally had a single 5-bamboo tile in my hand. At least I got points on the draw >_>
