How many full-time jobs have had?

So I'm resigning from my current company because they're starting to implement WFO this August and it's in this small town the middle of nowhere. Not only did I have to leave my family, most of my friends, and my theater communities, but I also have to spend a lot more on rent and commute now, making the pay not really worth it.

Well, that and that my boss said I can work from home due to my role but the HR disagreeing with him twice and it's just kinda disappointing. There's a lot more to it but...yeah.

I'll be working for another game studio starting October! It's in my hometown, technically, but it's way across my (parents') house, so I still need to find a place. But at least the pay's better.

What about you?

Technically I've never "left" my company. But I've gone through a turbulent acquisition and have had three completely separate roles that have all felt quite a bit different from one another.

My last job just wasn't cutting it for me anymore. The project processes were really bad, pay could've been better, and I generally wasn't doing the things I wanted to do anymore. Then covid came along and killed off the interesting projects and the social aspects. Just made sense to move on/

I found a new job two years ago and been enjoying it a lot more. The work is more interesting, I'm learning a lot, and people are great.

My last job was my first position in what is now my career. I was there for 10 years and it was a national company where raises just did not exist. My bosses son also worked for the company and he was growing increasingly more volatile by the day. I chose to find greener pastures and now work for a company that has worlds of problems, however I get to work from home full time and I make 30k more than I used to. I've been at my current company for 4 years.

Worked for my current company since Feb 2005, only job I had before that was part time bar work or working for my Dad. Started there part time before I went to college and then after I graduated they didn't want me to leave so offered me a position I wasn't remotely qualified to do but they were positive I'd pick up quickly from past performance (Design Engineer). I transferred from the UK office to the US office in 2012 to become their QA Manager and then in 2016 I became the head of training.

I could probably leave and find another job relatively easy for an extra $50k+ a year but other than not being remote (20-30 min drive) I have great flexibility. I basically come and go as I please with zero oversight so I probably only put in 30 hours a week most of the time unless I get swamped with FDA compliance stuff. I also work with my best friend every day and my direct manager is the VP who is a close friend.

Downside is the pay I mentioned earlier (I'm on a decent salary, I just know I could get more elsewhere) and I'm at the ceiling of progression. Not that I would want the role above me anyway. And if the VP did leave, I'd go with him if possible or find another job if not.

Worked my ass off as the sole IT person in a secondary site, gave up on lunch because I couldn't keep up with the tickets anyway and I wanted to do as much as I can
Because I cared and because I wanted to prove myself
Did it for like a year

Everything looked promising for me for promotion. Everyone that were more experienced than me in the main site left the company, and it looked like the position I wanted was about to get open. After all, I worked my ass off, proved myself, and there is no real competition anyway.

Then the boss decided to leave too. And we got a new boss. And of course the new boss doesn't really give a shit about me or what I did or if I even proved myself or not.
But even if he did....said boss decided he wanted to bring over workers from his old job.
So the position I wanted got filled by someone he knew from the previous job

That was enough for me to say fuck it and leave.

By the way said worker left two months later because of "Stress" >_>

First job was in a restaurant, hated it, quit after 2 shifts. They treated the entry level types so damn bad.

Second job was Toys R Us, got fired for telling the manager they were awful at their job. Lesson, don't call out your bosses for being stupid without a union.

Third job was Burger King, lasted 4 years there before quitting to go to my current job.

Fourth and current job, Custodian for the school board. Been 14 years now.

Depends on what you mean by full time.

I was a cook/server/manager at a local restaurant from 16-21. I worked part time during the school year and then full time in the summers. I worked there from summer going into grade 11 until the end of summer after 3rd year university. June 2003-August 2008. I left because I moved closer to my university for 4th year and sold my car and didn't want to transit.

I was a cook at another restaurant from Sept 2008-June 2011. I worked part time the first 8 months I was there as I was finishing up 4th year for my degree, but was full time after that. I left because I went back to school in another city and had to move

I then was a counselor/therapist from May 2014-Feb 2017. I left there because I got a better job at a research hospital doing research with MDMA and psilocybin. I've been at that job since Feb 2017.

so 4 jobs

So mine is a bit more fun I guess.

I was trying to get a paralegal job and I ended up landing a legal assistant job at a security system company. However, things were wrapping up on getting my paralegal job across the country and I kind of needed this one as a back up incase something fell through. They gave me the offer one day and I asked them if I could have a few more days to decide and they begrudgingly said I could have only one day to decide or else they'd give that job to someone else. Like it was clear they didn't want me leaving that room without giving them an answer. So the next day I accepted because I literally had to.

So I ended up doing orientation stuff for Monday-Thursday and I told them I had a prior engagement on Friday, which was flying out to go sign my contract for my paralegal job. I think they could tell I was kind of not taking orientation as... I don't want to say seriously, but maybe not working as hard to retain everything? I knew that unless something blew up, I had this other job.

So on Monday morning after I signed for my other job I called and told them that I got a better job they can't match and I won't be coming in again. The woman who hired me was extremely pissed and was just going "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" and interrupting me as I tried to explain and was trying to be polite and thank her for the opportunity.

I don't feel bad though because they refused to give me any time to decide and they made it clear I was extremely expendable if they were going to give the job to someone else if I didn't decide after a day. Don't be beholden to a single job. I tell everyone that. I made the right call for myself and there's no loyalty I had to them. Hoping they rethink their shitty one-day ultimatums in the future.

I absolutely kept all of their swag they gave me though. There's a POWER OF PURPLE shirt I got from them that I still routinely wear to work out and stuff.

Got fired for being on the spectrum. Sadly, couldn't sue their asses. They covered their butts by disguising it as "a poor fit."

Decided to give up working after that. Not worth the grief.

They also had other people to tell "We chose someone else." This is why they didn't give you much more time.

One time, my sister was hiring and her first choice asked for another two weeks "to think it over." My sister wasn't born yesterday so she knew it was that this person was waiting on another job. She gave said applicant one more day to decide because she had to tell everybody else that they didn't get the job, and that certainly couldn't wait two weeks. The applicant said no, though I don't know if she got the other job she wanted.

I work in IT. I left my last job because we kept adding contracts for revenue and not seeing any raises because our boss was a deadbeat.

Then a coworker pissed off a client to the point where it went out to let other contractors bid on their services when I was on vacation and that client was basically 95% my responsibility anyway.

Decided to open my own business and bid on the client's services (my old company didnt even bother) and won

Now I make over double the money doing more or less the same work because I don't have a boss siphoning revenue to do basically nothing.

My last job I left because I needed to be bringing in more than what I was and I wasn't really being given any potential for promotion that I frankly deserved. Plus no paid time off whatsoever

New job doesn't have health insurance, which sucks, but it also pays about 20k/year more than what I was making while also being less physically demanding

I work for a project that aims to keep young people at risk of becoming NEET engaged at school. Project delivery ended last month, and we're in the process of wrapping up the project and closing it down over the summer holidays and during the next school term. My contract is ending at the end of the year, so that's when I'll be leaving my current job, unless I get another job before then. I applied for a library assistant position and didn't get it, but the manager said she wants me to work there and has another position coming up, so I'm waiting for that to be advertised so I can apply for it.

Video game store went out of business which made me quit being a video game store clerk.

College/relocating made me quit being a vet assistant/kennel guy.

Aging out made me quit being a camp counselor.

Graduating made me quit being and RA for college dorms for five years.

Leaving a door unlocked had me fired from lab work that was basically testing pee for drugs.

Now teaching high school science for 9 years. Ive taught at three schools. I left my first two schools because my wife got promotions at her job and we had to relocate to accommodate her company.

I used to manage inventory with a guy in his house in rural Kansas for over 100 Boost Mobile stores throughout Oregon, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Texas for a business HQ'd in Wichita, ran by my boss's brother. It was weird. After a few years, they realized there wasn't much point in me going to the other guy's house because he ordered phones while I checked receipts, so I got a laptop and just worked from home for a while.

Then as time went on, it seemed like someone was getting into the CEO's ear about us not doing things accurately? Or that he needed a different group to come and and manage it all because I kept losing more and more responsibilities to the point I was only working about 15 hours a week. When I was looking for somewhere else to go, the CEO's brother I worked for called me and told me they were letting me go. He seemed really upset that they led me on for so long and that he really didn't want to, but his brother made him.

The very next week, he called me back and told me I wasn't alone; that jackass fired him too, after saying for longer that I'd even been there that he was so proud that this was basically a family business and that as long as he wanted, he would always have a job there.

Holy shit, I just googled the name of the business out of sheer curiosity, and they filed for bankruptcy 3 years ago. Guess that explains a lot...

Last job I left was because I got berated by the boss after requesting she do something about a problem patron and she decided to chew me out instead. Which, by itself was fine because this wasn't a "doesn't stand with your employees" moment, but this talk went on for over an hour over the incident on a day when I was literally thinking about calling a suicide hotline instead of going into work that day.

I worked tech support for self-driving rideshare cars - basically taking calls/chats from drivers when their cars were acting up and fixing it on the back end.

Ended up quitting because they installed the mics in the cars way at the back, so in order to hear a driver on a call you had to crank the volume to max, and then you'd inevitably get your eardrums blown out when you got a chat from another driver and the chat noise was at max.

Didn't have the option to turn that down individually, and it was so damn overwhelmingly loud it started causing panic attacks and migraines. Pretty sure it damaged my hearing to some degree but I'll never be able to prove that.

Full time, huh?

If we're counting "why I left my first full time job," horrible mismanagement of an environmental testing lab. I was assigned to the volatile organic testing... right after the BP oil spill. With one colleague, who did not speak English, and one manager, who barely helped me out because "I should have known this already we hired you as a chemist."

Yeah, right out of college with no practical experience, bastard.

If we count the job before that, I've worked basically two part time jobs to make ends meet until I fell into my current full time. The part time before I moved I left because I was doing full time hours without full time benefits (to cover for my mother, I worked with her, when my stepfather died.) The part time AFTER I moved that I was working simultaneously with my current job before I got upgraded to full-time? We got outsourced and the workers left en masse since we went from hourly to "by merit" (and the "merit" was "if you do triple the work in one hour you already do, you match your pay.")

Said 5 but should've said 6. Typically 12-18 months at each company, except for 1 who I worked with for over 3 years. But that was technically a dozen different jobs as an independent contractor.

My current job is the first time I have ever gotten a raise without having to leave. It was always 10x easier to just jump somewhere else.

Left my last job because it felt like a dead end and they were also trying to go back into office in like March 2021. Obviously that didn't work so they stayed remote for like a year, but the insistence was still terrible.

I've been in social work for about 3 years now. Worked my first two in home-based and made a shitload of money (Which all went into paying off university and credit debt unfortunately) at the expense of destroying my mental and physical health. Switched to community mental health close to a year ago and likely won't stay in here too much longer. It's much better but the pay is atrocious. Mental health therapy anywhere isn't going to pay much but it's pretty bad in Southern Indiana despite the high need. Once I get my LCSW I'm probably gonna jump into a private practice out of this garbage state so I can actually make a decent wage.
