Blogfaqs alert. If you're not down to clown with some blogfaqs then just head right back to the topic list.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/3/0/AAROv4AADaZC.jpg

I saw someone else on CE do this once so I'm going to do it too. It's just a Japanese learning topic where I log my progress each day. No particular reason other than boredom. This topic will probably life a short life but oh well!

I only use the free version of Duo, but I do pay for Satori Reader, WaniKani, and a weekly iTalki lesson. Also just random YouTube videos and whatnot.

I spend my time reading Japanese people type on Twitter about Pokemon, or the Hololive JP Twitter talents. Helps me learn the kanji they use and I'm successful if I can read a full tweet without any help. A month ago I successfully talked with a Japanese person and we typed all in Japanese. I understood what he was saying and I assume he understood what I was saying. Usually the Japanese Twitter peeps type in English if you say you're from America, so I didn't tell him and he just typed only in Japanese.

I also follow this guy and I'm still in the middle of doing his course. He recently recommended reading manga with furigana to help learn kanji in context, but the last time I read manga was in 2011 in English. Not really interested in reading manga.

Honestly most language apps suck and will only teach you kanji, and only in a very, very vague and foreigner sense.

I do Duolingo just to stay fresh with survival Japanese. I actually live in Japan, but I want to keep up with anything, even if it isnt amazing.

Why do you guys feel Lingodeer is better? I used to use it before DuoLingo cleaned up their kanji (it used to be trash). It was basically the same stuff though.

Wakiwani is basically flashcards.

Honestly, finding good reading material for foreigners learning Japanese is hard. I know people swear by Genki, but workbooks dont cut it and dont offer much in the way of nativeness. It is always missing nuance and actual explanation. Ive tried them and didnt feel they were helpful, outside of being easy to answer the prompts.

Had a good lesson today.

Let's see, I re-learned - to compare things. Kurabe-te.

Also the cost of things. .

And also to be interested in:

Eg I'm interested in nature.
Shizen ni kyomi ga aru.

Godspeed, learning Japanese takes a lot of commitment.

I personally use WaniKani and Bunpro. I find it a good combo of kanji and grammar. I am at 1200ish kanji and I am at the point where I can (with some effort) read manga and understand most of the dialogue.
