People who are outgoing or very social by nature seem to have this outlook that, with more confidence, everybody would be just like they are.

Truth is, I'm plenty confident. Confident enough to decide that I'd rather be at home than anywhere else lol

I do think social skills deteriorate and improve depending how much you use them, like a muscle

If I haven't left the house for weeks to socialise I'm going to feel a little anxious around people, might overthink some small things

But if I see someone on the regular, I've very comfortable and confident around them

It always gets me when an adult is referred to as "shy"

Adults aren't shy, children are shy.

Adults can have shy moments. I've been unable to look people in the eye as an adult when my mental health was particularly bad. Been super nervous on dates before too.

I'd almost rather refer to myself as shy to people then trying to overcomplicate it by going into detail about anxiety, which really comes and goes and sometimes feels inaccurate a word to describe how I'm feeling

My wife mentioned that I've become an irritable guy over the years, attending less social events and outings. Was far more outgoing and energetic about meeting new people in the first few years of our relationship lol.

I normally only go out for my kids, or for important things / events these days. I have no desire to attend events or outings to mingle with other people specifically. I've probably grown a little pessimistic over the years.

I think some people simply assume that you must be shy or strange for not wanting to mingle or converse with others. I just can't stand a lot of people and find time around them to cause brain-cell haemorrhage.

Small social circle, good enough for me.
