I've heard people use it both ways. For example If you fight with someone that could mean you and that person are fighting each other, or it could mean you are fighting alongside that person against someone else.

I find the second usage more confusing.

If anything I would say adjl doesn't give a shit about anything. He posts and responds for the sake of it, not because he genuinely cares about the topic of discussion.

You can get PO worked up and passionate fairly easily but he'll leave after a couple posts.

It's probably just the age difference. 15 years ago I'd ride any given debate straight to the end of the topic (and maybe even start a new one), and post like 10 times straight every time because I had so much to say the character limits wouldn't let it all fit in a single post (or two, or three...).

These days, my free time is more limited, my overall energy is much lower due to general fatigue, my patience is greatly depleted, and I've long since learned the lesson that you can't argue stupid people out of being stupid, so I mostly lose interest in arguments quickly. At least on PotD.

I'll generally check a given topic a few times, but once it's been a couple days or the topic has gotten way too large (which is generally a good sign that other people are arguing/shit-flinging in it), I tend to just stop bothering to read it. And once a topic gets bounced down to the bottom of my Active Message list (or onto the second page), it pretty much ceases to exist for me. Also not helped by the fact that I really only check the first two pages of topics on PotD these days.

The days of Wall O' Text POwnings are long, long gone. The last time I was able to have those sorts of prolonged debates and stick to them was in the Geek topics, and now that they've basically died the long debates have gone with them.

I generally agree with him and he articulates very well with lots of relevant information.

For the most part yeah. Sometimes he types too much and I just skim over it but other times what he posts can be interesting.

I respect him. I don't always agree but he's one of the few honest debaters here. He actually takes the time to refute people's arguments no matter how dumb they are.

he's one of the few honest debaters here. He actually takes the time to refute people's arguments no matter how dumb they are.

I very much disagree with that. Several times he has replaced my actual argument with something he would rather argue about instead. Then told me I was arguing against a position no one holds. There was one time he demanded I prove something I wasn't even that committed to and the only way to prove it would have been to interview the people involved.

He can be self-righteous and preachy but otherwise he's alright.

And I don't know if I'd call him patient so much as he has too much time on his hands.

He seems nice enough, but sometimes his unbridled sexual magnetism makes me feel inadequate.
