You ask them a question, and they give you a direct answer instead of cryptic double meanings, hints meant to be deciphered, and outright lies meant to advance their hidden agenda like most people.

I'm pretty sure I'm on the spectrum, and I'm an honest guy. Most other people I've met who are on the spectrum have seemed honest too.

No, it's called cowardice at best and selfishness at worst. Perhaps people who do that should take their own advice and actually fucking communicate like you're allegedly supposed to?

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with autism since we're usually honest. If anything, it's you guys (not you, just NTs in general) that lie or prevaricate.

I think you're being a little bigoted.

CE thinks everything remotely emotional is a melty. They know they're full of shit; they just want to provoke you and don't know how to troll properly. They're likely pathetic in real life, so just bask in the fact that you're not.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

There's a connection (trust me, I know; I'm autistic and I've researched it. I know my condition), but autism is also a spectrum so some are more honest than others.

The thing about autistic people is that they tend to prioritize verbal communication rather than body language, myself included. I've learned to read the latter a bit but I still prefer to have the scales overwhelmingly tipped in favor of verbal communication. Like, if I have a good idea what someone's body language is saying (which tends to happen with people I'm close to), I'll take the risk and act accordingly; but if I'm even a little uncertain, I'll ask. I wish more people would stop assuming and using it as a basis for their entire communication system.

This, my mom has worked helping mentally challenged people her whole life. They lie. The issue is that they aren't good at lying either.

Now are they all liars? No, they are people and people come in all forms. Also, all forms of autism isnt the same. Some are high functioning where you cant even tell they have it and some are so bad they cant speak or care for themselves. It's not fair to label them all with the same brush.

Okay so since more than one person is saying this, I'll indulge it just in case I'm biased because I'm on the spectrum.

What was the context behind these lies? Also, mentally challenged =/= autistic.

Do you want me to recall every conversation that my mom ever had with autistic people? She was a teacher and then a caretaker for people with disabilities for like 30 years.

Nah, I was just hoping you had something more substantive than anecdotes that you don't even recall the exact minutiae of.

I'm open to changing my beliefs about autism and such, but I need something more than that. That's all I was saying.

Furthermore, I still don't think there is a logical connection between autism and lying. The best evidence I've seen suggests that autistic people are generally honest; if they are lying because of their autism, they probably have more instability than just that. I've been known to lie when I want to get something out of a stranger (I try not to though. Haven't done it in awhile), but it's less to do with being autistic and more to do with a lot of my other beliefs about life, as well as my other mental conditions.

I wasn't pissed off or anything. First sentence sounds a bit defensive, at least for a non-autistic person. ;) :P

I literally refuse to answer scripted questions like that. People's reactions became amazeballs after I did stop. Like Kyle/Karen, you asked me how I was doing and I was honest. Perhaps think before you speak in the future? :)

Not at all. The thing that got her in the end was that we are assigned usernames and we can keep track of who is doing what. Add in the blame game and making up stories and it was over.
I work with another guy at my new company and suspect he is autistic as well. This guy i feel bad for because its obvious to me he is the one doing the majority of the work in his department and i suspect they are taking advantage of him. But i dont work in his department unlike the first scenario so i cant say anything for certain. This guy i wouldnt mind working with.

I have to say I have lied about some things in my life, but it's generally out of a sense of shame and embarrassment. They're lies that hurt no one beyond myself. Many times, though, I'd rather shut myself off from people than put myself in a situation where I feel like social niceties would call for one to not be so honest.
