But that's literally how you have to enjoy most movies nowadays. Or you wanna tell me how all of the Disney-Wars and MCU movies hold up so well under scrutiny? --- I don't kill... but I don't lose either. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Ah, I misremembered the Bothans line. I also think Solo isn't a good movie to "turn your brain off" to either - the movie is full of callbacks and homage. It gives respect to nostalgia in a way that none of the other recent films really do. Lopen posted... Yeah but knowing the fate of the main characters is imo more important. You can't disagree? You're focusing on the fate of the characters, I'm focusing on the plot. We know the Death Star plans end up with Leia. 100% know that. I am right on that. You are right that we don't know the fates of these new characters going in. Where we would disagree is in knowing the fates of the characters, if that matters as much. But I think at this point, whatever has been said is pretty surface-level, and I could respond by pointing out that there's plenty of media where we know what's going to happen and it's still good, and you would focus on the drawing in, and we'd not be having a real argument in that case. --- "Bordate is a pretty shady place, what with the gangs, casinos, evil corporations and water park." - FAHtastic ... A lot of fiction knowing where the story goes is pretty irrelevant is mostly my point. Like it's not wrong but there are lots of stories where it matters and a lot where it doesn't. It's all about presentation and what focus is put on. Rogue One is more of a journey movie than a destination movie. Leia will get the plans, we know this, but how will she and at what cost is the focus which we know nothing about. So the movie still manages to feel like it has stakes and get the viewer invested. I don't know what Solo is about but if there are a lot of conflicts where what's at stake is Han Solo or Chewie or the Falcon in some way then you could argue that's a problem in a prequel movie. If there the stakes of the conflict involves the side characters heavily then it's less of a problem. If it happens to have side characters but the focus is still ultimately on something you know goes right in the end, then you're just speaking in terms of technicalities --- No problem! I enjoyed Solo far more than the sequels and Rogue One. In fact, apart from Vader at the end, Rogue One sucked! --- "I do because I can." http://card.psnprofiles.com/1/Micer101.png ... Copied to Clipboard!

Rogue One is awful. A bunch of cardboard cutout characters and I'm supposed to care when Solo was easily the best Star Wars movie that Disney made. --- to me hero's is just bad person ... Copied to Clipboard!

Rogue One is a fantastic film. It possesses a lot of the tone one would expect from the Expanded Universe and it presents a very interesting, unique tone that, while different from the general atmosphere of Star Wars, works really well. I'm always fascinated by the characters in the muck and the grime of the Star Wars universe, and it I thought it had a pretty unflinching portrayal of the hopelessness of the Rebellion. That worked really well in juxtaposition to A New Hope and the bright future it ultimately alludes to at the end. The sacrifice of the cast in Rogue One really reminds of those classic World War II films, the sort of Bridge Too Far or Saving Private Ryan films which honestly jibe really well with the Star Wars universe. Solo starts at a breakneck pace, and I think it would have done well to be the miniseries format instead (usually, I think they pad those minis out far too much, but this is rare situation where they needed more time). The cast was pretty strong, and it's too bad characters like Val and L3-37 didn't get quite enough time to stretch their legs. But I enjoyed it. It's a romp, it's amusing in a lot of ways. Just very compressed. --- "It is too easy being monsters. Let us try to be human." ~Victor Frankenstein, Penny Dreadful ... Copied to Clipboard!
