Like, without legitimately looking at the synopsis (and by ignoring it's an isekai) you just sit there and ask, "The other side of what?"

The world? So she's some Brazillian girl for this Japanese boyo?
The street? Very 'Girl Next Door' vibes
My body? So basically she's Professor Quirrel from Harry Potter?

Beated the new chapters. Looks like the assistants can perfectly imitate his art. They don't have his ridiculous finishing touches on shadowing but the art definitely passes the eye test. Very interested to see if this is the final arc or final location. I feel like maybe they will take this fight somewhere else to delay it a bit further.

I feel like you can tell from the panel layouts more than anything. The one page with all the cut up panels in particular does not feel super Berserk, though I could be looking for things that aren't there.

But it still looks excellent either way.

Doflamingo was cool, not Crocodile-level cool but I liked his inventive use of his abilities. Like how he would crawl along his strings in order to kinda fly.

As for his backstory, yeah no, nothing is going to make me feel bad for the Celestial Dragons

And yeah I don't know anyone who feels sorry for Doffy. Dude is a vicious sociopath who represented everything bad about the Celetial Dragons. Then they rejected him so he decided he was just going to burn the whole world down around him. But he is a great villain.

I rewatched Anne-Happy today. It was still really good! The five main characters all have terrible luck in different ways, which means they all have a solid gimmick for gags. Hanako with her positive attitude despite her all-around bad luck is my favorite, but I'd forgotten how funny Botan was with her poor health. There were so many solid moments of her falling apart over the tiniest things. It did a lot of the usual cute girls doing cute things staples, like going to a beach, going to a hot spring, going to a festival, etc, but it always added a fun bad luck twist to make it fresh. CGDCT is one of my favorite types of anime, and Anne-Happy remains one of my favorites in the genre!

Twelve Kingdoms finished. I'm normally not one for political intrigue stuff, but the stuff at play here was done very well. Now it's off to rewatch some shows for a little while get some nostalgia pops. First is Senko-san, cause I can always use some happy stress free fun.

Healer Girl had a great start, but lost a bit of steam along the way. I love slice of life shows with some fantasy injected into them in general, so the idea of them singing to heal people was excellent, and gets a good deal of focus for a while. Unfortunately, the later parts focus a little more on mundane stuff - parts like the school festival and the maid going to America weren't very interesting to me. The cast was solid, but not really good enough to carry the show when it wasn't focused on healing. I was never quite sure if the doctor and the pharmacist who run the clinic were supposed to be a couple, since we see the doctor

Kaguya S3 - tried this out after I watched and dropped a few episodes of S1, then read the (vastly superior) manga in between. I still think the manga's much better (particularly in terms of comic timing), but this season seemed a bit better in terms of not having the narrator be overwhelming.

Some more Dressrosa thoughts (I guess I'll spoil these??):

  • People here mentioned the pacing, and yeah, I can definitely see how reading this week-to-week could be a bit exhausting. ESPECIALLY the fakeout Luffy win over Doflamingo, leading to the whole "stall for ten mintues" section. That felt a lot like padding, though there were some neat moments (i liked seeing all the different groups trying to stop the birdcage from collapsing)
  • Obviously, there's a lot of parallels between this arc and Alabasta. I'm not even sure I have to spell it out... if you combine this with Punk Hazard, this whole segment of the manga feels like the first major arc of part 2, just like how one could argue Alabasta was the first major arc of part 1. This isn't a criticism or anything, just something I pondered while going through Dressrosa.
  • Gear 4... I always thought it looked goofy, and it is. But, you know, I think it works? I like that this form isn't traditionally badass like a lot of other shonen protag's transformations. You can tell Luffy is serious while using it, but it doesn't lose that silly/comedic charm that he's got going on either. I also like some of the body-horror-adjacent things like the fact that Luffiy is now so rubbery he can't stop bouncing, and now he can retract his hand into his arm like an arm cannon.
  • This was also Law's big breakout story arc. I know he's a popular character, and I can see why. Though personally... when it comes to the Worst Generation, I kinda like Captain Kidd a little more still. I think it might his powers, I don't know
  • Speaking of padding, I was not into the coliseum stuff at all at first. But I think it lead to a really nice payoff, by spending all that time there, it made the gladiators' eventual alliance with Luffy even stronger. I loved that they all decided to pitch in and help when Doflamingo lowered the birdcage
  • And speaking of alliances... as soon as the gladiators proposed becoming a Straw Hat alliance, I KNEW Luffy would refuse. But I loved their response, since they're all free people that can still just willingly choose to align with Luffy without it being a official thing
  • Bartolomeo is probably the fastest I went from hating a character to liking them. Their straw hat fanboy schtick really works for me!

Move over Executioner, Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story is my anime of the season.

I remember putting this at the bottom of my lists earlier in the season. It was good early on, I just had no faith that it would go anywhere. Birdie Wing kept on reaching new heights, though. I thought some of the mafia golf craziness would be the high point but it just got better and better no matter what it was doing. Eve and Aoi are both fun characters and their dynamic is the best. Anime insanity has improved many other sports with special moves and unreasonable abilities, and that kind of stuff translates to golf well. It's stereotyped as the most boring sport, but I've seen videos where pros skip the ball across a lake onto a hill where it then rolls just perfectly for a hole-in-one. Golf lends itself well to insane feats of skill, and fiction can cut out all the fluff and only show those exciting shots. Add magical named abilities onto that, plus the mafia for some reason, and you get Birdie Wing. It's great, and I can't wait for season two.

But the mafia had a shapeshifting underground golf course and a snake woman with disorienting pheromones and a lady with a prosthetic arm that exploded when she made a shot too hard and they blew up a politician's car with a bazooka and... I liked the mafia parts of Birdie Wing lol

On another note, Birdie Wing inspired me to rewatch Scorching Ping Pong Girls last night. They aren't all that similar other than a few tropes related to sports anime, but it was the closest thing I could think of. SPPG was still pretty good. I like Koyori a lot for always feeling the doki doki when she plays, and it goes all-out with magical ping pong skills. The problem I have with it, and one I'm glad Birdie Wing avoided, is that SPPG only has one season. It's still introducing rival characters in the last few episodes, and the final episode ends with a montage of all the interesting teams I never got to see. It's a good anime but depressing that it never really went anywhere.

Today I rewatched Angel Beats. It still managed to get to me. Some character backstories are way too over-the-top (Yuri's especially) but for the most part I think this anime manages a perfect balance between comedy and drama. My favorite running gag is the sappy song that plays for a few seconds when characters get seriously injured. It's a great parody of epic sacrifices because here they're immortal so they're fine. I like all the characters, and of course the ending really delivers. I'm glad this held up to a rewatch, it's still one of my favorites.

I remember Overlord S3 looking really low budget, and I'm not usually one to care about that. I forget if it did anything else bad, mostly because I've forgotten Overlord entirely. I'd probably need to rewatch S1-3 before 4 but I'm not going to prioritize that.

Finished The Demon Girl Next Door season two. I enjoyed it even more than the first! The two main characters always had a fun dynamic, but too much of the first season was just Shamiko challenging Momo to things and getting tricked over and over. This season kept finding fresh ways for everyone to interact, and scenarios with different combinations of Lilith, Mikan, Ogura, Ryo, and so on were always fun. I liked the new characters they brought in too, and the greater focus on Shamiko's powers.

Summer season has begun! I think only two are starting today and I have zero interest in Rent-a-Girlfriend S2 but it's available now if anyone else is.

As for me, I watched the first episode of Phantom of the Idol on HiDIVE. I don't think this will appeal to anyone other than me. The not-great CGI during shows will probably turn off a lot of people. I enjoyed it though. Ghost idol girl is fun, the lazy boy idol is fun, and it didn't have any 'lol isn't it funny a girl is in the body of a boy' humor, which was the only thing I was worried about. It won't be a super amazing anime or anything, but I'm ready for the story of a ghost fulfilling her dream by helping an incredibly lazy dude be an idol.

Shadows House S2 - Got nothing CLEVER for this one either.

Engage Kiss - The title would make you think its a generic romcom harem, but thats not what the description implies.

Devil Kisses - When a show stars a girl who needs to get energy via kissing you know what to expect.

Lusting For Maid - Rie Takahashi starring as the maid sign me up

Isekai Uncle - Another show with a title that already says it all.

Gangsta Babysitta - Take it from me babysitting aint worth shit just keep your yakuza job.

Odd Job Girls - Candy, zombies, monsters and cute girls show.

Lucifers Dog Biscuit - I couldnt come up with something better. People rave about the manga so hopefully this is good.

Dark Messenger - This sounds kinda Konosuba-like a little bit at least, but Ill be surprised if its half as good.

Catgirls Everywhere - Ive never watched this series.
