Arguments for Bowser:
  • he's BOWSER, duh - he can breathe fire, he has sharp claws, and he can create shockwaves when he lands
  • he is an even heavier heavyweight than DK and is less likely to be knocked around
  • punching the moon out of the sky? hello, meet creating a new galaxy


Arguments for DK:
  • he's DONKEY KONG, duh - he's bigger, faster, and stronger too
  • he has experience handling heavyweights and is nimbler than Bowser
  • if DK shoots Bowser, it's gonna hurt


Last topic it was time for ultraviolence as DK brought the hurt onto Estelle. Today gives us our first same series matchup! Mario was nominated, but I think Bowser is a more interesting opponent, since (as far as I know) they've never directly fought before. Bowser's a match for Mario, but how will he handle DK?

Yeah I think Bowser wins via playing dirty here. Brings in some outside help. I ain't saying an army of goombas and paratroopas are going to beat DK alone but they'd swing a close battle pretty decisively for Bowser.

Kinda depends on which version of Bowser, because if we need enormous cat suit Mario to stand up to him, DK doesn't have a chance. If we have "I'm an idiot who rides around in a floating clown car and throws clockwork koopas at you," then DK has no problem whatsoever.

Averaged out, I feel like Bowser has the edge, but since the question is could DK win in a fight, the answer is yes.

As someone who knows far too much about both characters, Donkey Kong.

To base the characters on titles where they appear together:
-Bowser is generally a little stronger than DK (Bowser's usually max strength, DK is usually slightly underneath him). However, Bowser is almost always slower as well.
-In Mario Party 5, Donkey Kong shows up and punches Bowser in the nose sometimes if you land on a Bowser Space. Bowser will react in fear and run away after stealing 10 coins. This is the only time one has ever showed fear to the other. It is likely, in a close-quarters match, Bowser believes that he will lose.
-In Mario Party DS, Bowser shrinks everyone down to tiny size, except Donkey Kong, who he turns into a stone statue. Once DK has recovered, he runs into Bowser's Castle and beats Bowser on accident, as he was just storming it INTENDING to help, not actually knowing where Bowser was.

But if you want to discount goofy Mario Party plots (which... y'know. Is probably better for your health), I think it just comes down to a personality issue. Bowser has a significantly better AoE presence, but he's both insanely prideful and an incredible showboat. DK is single-minded when he's not goofing off, and "winning a fight, especially against a king" is probably second only to "all my bananas gone" for him. DK is GREAT at capitalizing on mistakes, and Bowser is great at getting upset and making them when he's not dominating immediately, and DK should be able to match his strength.

tl;dr, man I wish more people played Jungle Beat, DK's baseline respect would be so much higher.

The punch rushes, sure.

Less the parts where he alabama slams an ape five times his size, breaks a giant obsidian egg by slamming his head into it like a jackhammer, or reverses fire breath by clapping really hard at it. Plus actually taking punches and having really nice reaction speeds.

Usually I see Punch-Out brought up before any actual JB fight.

And there goes one of Bowser's greatest assets, though is there any reason DK alternatively couldn't outmaneuver it - along with most anything else Bowser could throw at him? Just look at him in the K. Rool trailer! Given how well DK knows how to climb, being a giant might be WORSE for Bowser.

Basically yes, he could beat Bowser in a fight. But I'd say Bowser could also beat him. It would be an exciting big monster showdown every time.
