lmao i was thinking the same thing, it feels like an evil dead-style shot movie with some of the campiness

coupled with that it's raimi and brucey had a cameo, it's not too off the mark i think

They also had the basic necronomicon involved, the same spirits that came out due to taking over a dead body etc. Literally had a ton of tie ins throughout the movie. Didn't know Raimi directed it till after when I looked it up specifically cause I felt like he had to, and I was right.

Plenty of people hate her character now, though. If they ever tried to bring her back as a good guy and say she'd "redeemed" herself, there'd be a lot of backlash.

Basically, they ruined the character in the movies just like she was ruined in the comics.

She's done worse than Loki at this point and even he's hard to buy as a protagonist sometimes.

I think can still get back on the lunchbox after this, depends on what they want to put her in next though, strong hints that it may be House of M

It's classified as a horror and sure there are some eldritch tentacle monsters, zombies and souls of the damned, but it's more of an adventure fantasy then a horror; trying to get my mum to watch it, but she is put off by the "horror" moniker.

Also, DAE notice Loki hanging out at the wedding in the beginning of the movie?

Yeah, I don't think I've seen Hiddleston with a beard like that, though google does have some images of him with a thicker beard.

He is supposed to cameo in the movie somewhere, and in the first time watching it this morning I only saw him in the one scene, though there are a lot of minor details throughout that it could have been a blink and miss it moment.

i think im one of the few people who actually really liked it. it was paced weirdly and bits didnt make sense but i really liked how much of sam raimi was in it, as others have said it was very reminiscent of evil dead and i love evil dead. it also had a very gothic horror aesthetic in general which i dug.

Well nothing compares to the power of The One Above All, who we will probably never see in the MCU.

Celestials were implied pretty far back, and have been much more explicitly referenced recently. They're pretty far up the cosmic chain.

We might, but more on a technicality.

The problem is that Marvel has used that name for two different concepts. The one you're referring to (which is basically saying God without saying God and pissing off religious people, and which has been presented in the past to look like Jack Kirby), and the prime Celestial:

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/One_Above_All_(Celestial)_(Earth-616)

So we might see the Celestial one (though they might skew away from the Celestials because of how Eternals kind of shat the bed), but probably not the God one (especially since they still want to keep exporting all of these films and shows to other countries).

I personally think the movie would have been better if it had been presented in a linear fashion instead of jumping back and forth through the present and past to try and make Robb Stark look like the good guy.

Also, the commercial for the film lied to us, I didn't hear "Eternal's Assemble" once in the movie.

Jumping back and forth can work. Highlander did it really well back in the 80s.

You have to do it well, though. Poorly written flashbacks just feel jarring and confusing, and disconnect the viewer from the characters.

Though there's also the possibility that people's much reduced attention spans these days make it harder to do that sort of storytelling in modern blockbusters because thinking makes brain hurt.

I think one of the bigger issues is that I never really bought into Robb as the protagonist. He should have been more outwardly heroic and charismatic, at least on the surface. The entire arc of the film was that Circe, despite being softer and less outspoken, was the real leader of the Eternals because she was always going to push them to do the right thing.

But that's undercut by how our decoy protagonist has the personality of a wooden board and isn't convincing as the leader regardless.

But that's undercut by how our decoy protagonist has the personality of a wooden board and isn't convincing as the leader regardless.

That might be an outgrowth of them changing the lore to accommodate their desire to have the female characters be the primary ones.

Sersi was never the leader of the group, and sure as hell wasn't their moral center. She was always a bit of a self-centered hedonist, and relatively far down their hierarchy. The only reason she really got more of a spotlight is because they eventually had her join the Avengers (along with Gilgamesh/The Forgotten One for about all of a year).

So trying to push her into the lead role actually stripped away some of the character elements that made her interesting, and they had to de-emphasize some of the other characters (like Ikaris) so they didn't overshadow her.

Though the other problem might be that the Eternals were never all that popular in the comics in the first place. Like the Inhumans, they may have been destined to fail even before they wrote the script because the audience wasn't going to give a shit about them regardless. People like to point to Guardians of the Galaxy as an example of how Marvel can take more obscure characters and make people love them, but the Guardians have an advantage in that they're extremely quirky and can be played for comedy, which makes it a lot easier to make them fun and interesting. Eternals (and Inhumans) don't really work the same way.

Of course, now that Marvel doesn't have to keep trying to find alternatives for mutants because they've gotten the X-Men rights back from Fox, they'll probably stop trying to keep pushing stuff like Inhumans and Eternals.

On the other hand, I might be completely wrong, and they're going to try and push a Young Gods movie in Phase 5 because they haven't learned a single lesson from any of this.
