MATCH 1 I've said before that I can get into weird songs in the right scenario. Neko Nabe...isn't really that scenario. This is more funny to me than something I can appreciate as a song. Soflan-chan was at the high end of "I appreciate this as a song," while Neko Nabe is more akin to Nanmushi's Theme from VGMC13 in the sense of "I don't like this as a song, but I like it insofar as it makes me laugh." And Neko Nabe does indeed make me laugh at how ridiculous of a song it is. 2:00 with the most unenthusiastic singing ever, the random laughter and screaming as the mind succumbs to the weight of Neko Nabe. It's just so "out there" that I have to laugh at it (and not even in a bad way, really lol). Gutsu gustu nya nya! Another Winter is always great to listen to! I think these upbeat songs from Anamanaguchi are my favorite from them. Blackout City from Bit Trip Runner is another one like that that I really enjoy. But Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game in general has some really good songs. MATCH 2 This Tunnel Vision is really good trance music! Good melodic loops with a strong beat. 6:15 is the best part where the song stacks those two melodies on top of each other. Super good stuff! Mor Ardain's a really nice song too. Very catchy, adventurous sound all around. It's not the peak of Xenoblade music, but it's still really good. This is actually a somewhat close match. I think it was a lot closer when going through the favorites bracket, but both songs are very good. Probably a contender for my least favorite song in the contest, to be honest. It's not melodically appealing, I don't like the glitchiness of the song, and the vocals too are not very good when they get into those higher pitched notes. CMYK isn't that great either, but it's leagues better than Blue Orb. There's some melodically appealing stuff going on here like at 1:16. Possibly because of Stockholm Syndrome who knows. Another Winter however has never been a song that's made much of an impression on me. Tunnel Vision is pleasant but a bit too repetitive. I do like the sense of progression with the key change toward the end though. Mor Ardain is good-but-not-great Xenoblade battle(?) theme. Nice melody and strings and piano. The vocals in Blue Orb are okay but there's a lot I don't like about this song. The kind of abrupt note clipping that happens a lot in this song is a huge turnoff for me and I'm pretty much never going to vote for songs that utilize it. There's one part I like around the :35 section where the synths do this cool progression. I think there's a fairly solid vgm foundation I like but the neko nya vocals and random samples really make it hard for me to enjoy this. Another Winter 9 One of my favs. I just love how the guitars in the beginning repeat and build off each other in a blast of intensity and coolness. They come back again around the 1 minute part for a celebrational climax before smoothly looping to the beginning. The anamanaguchi weird sounds throughout also add a lot of pep and personality that make the whole thing fun and cute. Tunnel Vision (HIROSHI WATANABE Remix) 5 Easy to zone out to this one. I don't find anything distinctive that stands out to really grab my interest. I guess the parts where it's just one solo instrument are nice respites. Mor Ardain ~ Roaming the Wastes 6.5 Classic XC2 track. I like how the higher horns will climb in intensity and then be swiftly resolved as the track moves into the next section. There's a nice smooth flow between the varied parts. The brief piano solo is also bright and one of my favorite parts. Blue Orb 6 A storm of odd noises and whispered vocals overlay on a glitched matrix track. I like the big releases that the low piano synths interject occasionally. It gives the song a good sense of weight and grounding. I don't hate the irregular rhythm and noisecore of this song like others in the genre. CMYK (FM Arrange ver.) 7 Oh yeah I remember the melody and mood of these nominations being pretty unique. There's a sense of quiet established ritual and folklore that the echo-y woodwinds provide. It's cool how this track seems to go nowhere and everywhere at the same time. I was honestly in a horrible headspace when I listened to this! I do not find Another Winter to be particularly exciting, but there's something comforting and uplifting about it nonetheless. Some days you just gotta go with what makes you happy, man. When I listened to Tunnel Vision I thought about my girlfriend, because she likes this kind of music a lot. Mor Ardain is really good !! It really does feel like it will turn into some Siivagunner rip of a different song at times (I've heard Dancing Queen being thrown around a lot). It really gets me hyped. Match 3 is hard because both these songs scratch similar itches to me. There's a certain ethereal feeling to both of them, but I'm feeling Blue Orb a little more. I love the glitching sounds. The sorta polymetric synth bass at 3:00 is one of the best things and definitely a big factor in me liking this as much as i do. It makes this feel more like the intersection between edm and steve reich that is basically the THING that got me interested in music to the degree i eventually became, so i hold this very particular manifestation of edm quite close to my heart. This song is so epic and funky The one katamari song i actually like(LOVE); and i cant even vote for it ;-; now people are REALLY going to think i am a true 100% katamari music hater. But i promise, THIS katamari song, it is the one that i LOVE. A LOT it remind me of cornelius I hate this match. But it had to do it. Anyway, i love mizuno thank you for sharing your obscure finds with us all uf8. This track has some of the best fm sound design ive ever heard, like i thought yu-no was impressive but what is THIS oh my god. Its a crime mizuno isnt recognized in the same way some of the people similar to him are. Beautiful layered effects that make this sound so much fuller than should even be imaginable. Another Winter is just some good old-fashioned happy chiptune that I'll take any day of the week. Tunnel Vision (HIROSHI WATANABE Remix) [7.4 - 7.6] Mor Ardain ~ Roaming the Wastes [8.5] I legit don't know what it is, but I just can't feel much from the Battle Garegga remix. Which sucks since it's Battle Garegga, but it's just not hitting me today I guess. Mor Ardain has always been a fun field theme, it's always to hear the brass go all out in its performance here. Blue Orb [7.8] CMYK (FM Arrange ver.) [7.9] This matchup was closer than I thought, but right now I'm feeling more from the mystical vibes that CMYK is giving me.
