999 is the first game in the Zero Escape series.

These AI games are just from the same director/writer of Zero Escape but they're separate.

Really wanted to like AI 1 but the humor really harmed it for me. The first dream sequence where she's sucking plants up her nose and shit was everything I didn't want in a game from this team.

The dreams are all supposed to be surreal. The game has a lot of wackiness, but I promise you it knows when to drop it and treat serious topics with the proper respect.

Surreal is like Lynch. AI felt like just anime wacky comedy in the context of a dream. Wasn't a fan of the design of the eyeball chick either

I saw a blip of a review earlier this week and saw "The Best Visual Novel" and that's all I needed.

It stars Mizuki and some other new guy as the two protagonists you swap between, but I'd be extremely surprised if Date doesn't show up at all

Got my hand on the clicker waiting for it to unlock on steam. So hyped! Really hope the somniums aren't as punishing so you can play around this time. Having aiba do dumb shit is amusing.

Im tempted to buy the first game on steam for $8, but doubt id ever get around to actually playing it

That theme is beautiful, and haunting like the first.

I do appreciate how right at the outset they're like "do you want to have spoilers for the last game woven in or not"?

It would seem that it's just literally a few extra dialogue choices so characters could be like "wow that thing from last game sure was crazy wasn't it".

Things have been a bit sensitive this time around like skipping over a dialogue box and having to go to the log/passing up something you wanna click on. Nothing infuriating.
