So did Anakin just suck at fighting? Did he ever actually win a fight at all?

He lost against Obi initially getting his arms and legs cut off, which was his first "big" fight.
Now in this show he fights Obi again and loses badly.
Then he eventually fights his son in Return of the Jedi and also loses.

He didn't even win vs Obi in new hope as he let the saber go through him and turned into a force ghost.

So in the end the only time Anakin seems to win in a saber fight is vs younglings.

I'm sure in comics etc he wins more, but in the movies he seriously blows lol.

To be fair, few Jedi actually specialized in sabre to sabre combat and the one that actually did, Anakin beheaded.

He clearly doesn't suck (and remember in Episode 5. He didn't even need his lightsaber to stop Reva. Which was badass).
But he lets his emotions get in the way a lot of the time (as seen in the flashback fighting scene with Obiwan).
Fighting his old master, you can see the conflict within him. Deep down, he actually still cares for Obi-Wan, but he pushes on and lets his anger take over.

It's actually really interesting. When his mask breaks open in the finale, they use the red and blue of the saber colours across his face to show this conflict within him (red eventually consuming his face).

Cool, I didn't notice that. He also tried to make obi not feel blame for him becoming vader which was kinda a caring thing to do.

The other survival was much more surprising.

Honestly I thought Owen was going to kill Reva. Would have made that confrontation in the first episode some decent foreshadowing.

I absolutely loved this series. The prequels have been made better because of this series.

He lost because he had to lose and the show in general was very uninspired.

I can't believe they couldn't come up with a better spot for their duel than "random rocky area".

They should have stuck with the original plan and had Obi-Wan face off against Maul, and left Vader out of it completely, but then they would have had to pay the author and actually acknowledge the EU that they entirely ret-conned.

This sort of goes hand-in-hand with what I said in the other topic:

The answer isn't coming up with a dumb throwaway handwave explanation to justify it and then move on, the correct answer is not writing yourself into that corner in the first place.

"I created a potential paradox, and now I have to make characters look like idiots to avoid it" is not a valid excuse. The ideal scenario is not to create the potential paradox in the first place.

If you know Obi-Wan can't kill Vader because of future movies, don't have them fight. If you have them fight anyway, don't have Obi-Wan win.

Ideally, if you have to have them fight (which you shouldn't, because it contradicts dialogue in Episode IV regardless, and that's Prequel-level bullshit), do it in a way where they're separated somehow before one of them can get the killing blow. Imperial troops show up and Obi-Wan has to run away. Vader gets buried under some debris and Obi-Wan doesn't have time to dig him out and finish him off. Obi-Wan gets knocked off a cliff and Vader can't get to him before Obi-Wan gets away. Pretty much any ending that allows them both to get away to meet again another day without having to force one character to choose to spare another.

Best-case scenario, Obi-Wan shouldn't have been saving Leia and shouldn't have been fighting Vader. Shoehorning those things in just because them remind people of the time long long ago when they still liked Star Wars movies just makes the story worse. Respect your own continuity and don't retcon everything just so you can tickle the nostalgia bone.

The fact that they drew so hard from the Twilight of the Apprentice episode of Rebels also means in the Canon Vader basically had the same confrontation with Kenobi and Ahsoka in two seperate unrelated instances.
