I had it in my head that it was always free but I guess I got it from playstation plus at some point maybe?

When it launched it was a Playstation Plus game. But that was just for that platform, for that month. Now it's free for good, and on multiple platforms.

i tried my first ever fall guys game, I see I was with a group of people who ALSO had no idea what was going on, or perhaps was just full of bots to ease you into the fall guys process

I somehow won, though. I am now considering retiring undefeated in fall guys

will totally try this game out, will probably DL it on PC for streaming easiness

That's good. I got it on PS+ and only played it a little so it doesn't make much of a difference but... general access to it is good.

Note that if you played it before you get the first battle pass free. Starts you off with an Ezio costume.

yeah, its owned by epic now so they are modeling it after fortnite. There is a new currency called showbucks that will be used to buy certain skins the premium season pass (50 additional levels to the free season pass, which is 50 levels). Kudos (the purple currency) are still a thing, but crowns are no longer used as currency. For legacy players, the premium pass is free this season. It's funny because so far lobbies are full of about 80-90% new players and the rest are veterans (you can tell by the skins).

Its funny because I played it on PlayStation for the first time literally a day before it opened up to be F2P for everyone and I still got all the legacy rewards.

The new Blast ball show is pretty fun

You sure can't buy much, whether with Kudos or Showbucks

if they're only gonna cycle items weekly they need to have more available per week

Yeah, the golden days of being able to buy just about any skin or item you want with your crowns and kudos are gone. Lots of the new skins are behind the showbucks paywall now.

having the majority on weekly is wtf

these variants with the blast balls are pretty good, hopefully they find some way to add that to regular shows when the halo thing ends

It sort of blows my mind that this sort of currency system works.

Back when Fall Guys launched, I'd check the shop every time because it was really simple to see what was available and buy what I wanted.

This new system, I look at all the different currencies and options and menus and it just seems overwhelming and I don't want to bother figuring out what I can get and what costs real money and whatever, so I just tune it all out and if I ever play Fall Guys again (I play way less nowadays but occasionally boot it up) I just will ignore the skins entirely because it's too much trouble.

But I guess it must work on most people or businesses wouldn't do it.

In this games case, or Fortnite, Rocket League, etc., it works on kids who can beg their parents to buy them a new skin when they see one they want

I dont think this specific games system will work on that many adults

My issue with fall guys is it was always super easy to make top 20 or so, but the final 5 people were at worst hackers, at best people who obviously had played for a thousand hours

Theres so many new players that youre not likely to run into that as much

I think I must have reached the higher levels of matchmaking, if I make just one or two mistakes I lose on round 1 or 2 somewhat often now. Still managed to win all the challenges for the Idol Crown costume though

Yeah at 544 crowns or whatever I am, the new matchmaking formula makes solos a total mess. It's all people running optimal routes and if you make one mistake you are cooked.

Before it went free, I never and I mean never lost in round 1. Now its alarmingly common.

Duos, Squads and other modes though don't have that and thus are still easy

There's a certain downhill race one that is extremely frequent that I seem to lose more often than not.

I never even get knocked down on it, I'm just not fast enough. It's wild.

When you've got a lot of crowns, it's crazy how different the difficulty of who you face in Solo is compared to the other playlists.

I see a ton of the youtube and twitch pros. And yeah like... my win to finish the current event was a 6 way tie in Fall Mountain. Not sure if it only gave it to me or all 6 but it was literally all of us jump same time and pray.

Yeah, I'm at the level where I'm basically good enough to face those kinds of people, but not good enough to beat them, so I'm kinda screwed on the "solo win" part of the current task list.

EDIT: Unless I luck into Jump Showdown. I'm disproportionately good at Jump Showdown. My issue is even getting to the final against these people.

Solo is skill based matchmaking, while the other playlists aren't.

Going from having 1 or 2 other great players in any given game, to 60 great players in every game was a huge change.

Yeah, it certainly took me by surprise. It's a new thing Epic implemented, similar to Fortnite.

okay it's one thing when you join a Duos show and don't get paired up with a partner, but I just lost first round of a Squad Show despite getting 2nd in the race because I had zero squad partners.

I have only won one crown ever so does that mean if I played solo I'd actually have a chance to win a second one?

probably, lots of really dumb kids playing now that it's free

Yea I won my first solo game on my first attempt when no one knew how to time grabbing the crown on Fall Mountain
