Definitely a fun tournament. Reminds me of Summit. The salt is real with people hating on Steve. So much so calling for banning the character. The character has jank but isn't busted

If Smash 4 Bayo didn't get banned, I feel like there is no way Steve gets banned...

steve is extremely good but wanting him banned is super cringe

it's just the typical kneejerk reactionary garbage the community always does when one player wins a tournament, and it wasn't like the player that won wasn't the expected winner anyways because they are the japanese player in the world

it's clear that people still don't really know anything about the matchup. look at all the times people just run up to high minecart and die to it even when they have counters, or all the times they let acola side b off ledge or all the times people fell for the same minecart block wall strat. he's definitely a knowledge check and people in the us barely play his worse matchups (zss and yoshi) and complain about how impossible he is to deal with

i agree that steve fucking sucks to fight but i'm not a pro player or good at the game so my opinion doesn't count, and a character being lame is not a reason to ban them

Remember when K. Rool should've been banned? Remember when ROB should've been banned? Remember when Min-Min should've been banned?

on shogun's youtube you can find a poll regarding most hated characters, and steve is unsurprisingly number 1.this is a bit of an old video before the absolute explosion of acola (sep 2021), but it's funny to think that steve was this disliked before he was solidified as an unambiguous top tier. the rest of the list is min min, samus, pyra/mythra, and sonic. i wonder if steve would've been nerfed hard like min min if we still got patches

there is also a "top 10 most fun to fight" list and i didn't expect these results, though i do agree that wolf, joker, and lucina are very fun to fight

funny how japan doesn't really care about g&w. even with players like across who gets top 8 nobody really thinks that highly of him. i guess it makes sense because campy gameplay is the best way to fight him. i just think reading up on opinions across the world is really fun

Shogun's list is pretty much my top 5 least fun to fight too lol. Maybe add olimar instead of pyra/myrtha. While I think they are also broken, and destroy ZSS, I think they are fun to fight. But that is funny to see people hated Steve well before his rise to infamy. Surprised to not see G&W nor ZSS on the least fun to fight list.

The most fun to fight is interesting because I never really considered heavies fun to fight, unless they mean in a ditto. Like Ganon ditto? Fun af. Fighting Ganon? Not really because you either camp them the whole time or strictly out frame data them and win, neither of which is super fun imo. Palu, Joker, Lucina and even Roy, imo are pretty fun to fight so I agree with that.

I was watching the new Tweek Talks about Steve and the Gimvitational today, and they brought up the outside chance of getting a surprise balance patch, like the final Bayo nerf in Smash 4 was supposedly after patches were done. W/ so many people in Japan complaining about Steve, maybe we get something? Its not like they need Sakurai to make some balance changes.

there is no chance of an emergency patch because characters aren't as severely op as bayo was in the last game

the most i want out a patch is another aegis nerf (i wish mythra was just a feather weight and i think that'd do a ton and maybe a nerf to dair > upsmash from pyra), some characters that struggle to kill like duck hunt and ton link should have 1 more kill option (kill throw or jab buff like bayo got), and of course multihits and moves need to be fixed (boost kick, meta knight up b)

i don't really know how to nerf steve combos and tech without nerfing the fun, but if i had to choose things i'd nerf anvil and minecart (in killing power and mash needed to escape) and make him lose resources on death

i don't really think anyone is that much of a balance concern (i think aegis is mostly overblown) but i agree that a safety net nerf would be fair, even if we're definitely not getting one. it'd be cool to see this game get more dev attention but i have no hopes

sonic is legit top 5 if you play as lame as possible with your leads
zss can do it as well but it's a lot harder to have the lead to begin with
