Pixie is a dog. I don't know how many appearances Pixie has in comics. Maybe one panel? She's a dog that belongs to some other bit-time (I think) character, and has absolutely no reason to be anywhere near anybody's list of top 20 DC Comics characters.

So what has gone so horribly right with her here?

Pixie was found in Gotham by Lush (Scare's character). Lush is possessive, a bit of a kleptomaniac, and saw this dog and absolutely needed it. She needed to take this poor girl home and take care for her because Lush needed a dog. She just needed a dog. So she took the dog. Perfectly sensible.

So Pixie is the adorable girl who is very meek. She gets spooked by tons of things, has to hide under blankets, and is scared and just wants to go to her original owner. Lush dotes on her, and tries to pretend she's friendly with others and put her in positions she might not like (as one does with pets). And this could have been where things were left.

Except one of the player characters is also a dog.

Enter Data 7, known in campaign 1 as Artemis (Ermine's character). A white dog experimented on who can grow and shrink, and also speak English. For a whole campaign, Artemis was a puppy who spoke English. Now, he's a young dog who's in his moody teenage phase, and still speaks English. But he always could also speak to animals. Which means Pixie wasn't just a scared pup - Pixie was a scared girl that a player could communicate with.

Pixie in her original personality was along the lines of an old-timey British waif. Scar points to Upstairs Downstairs as influence - one might think along the lines of the Darlings from Peter Pan (without the Peter Pan part). Pixie is meek, yes. And she addresses Data 7 as "Sir" all of the time. She needs to get back to her Osgood (her owner). And Lush, she refers to as "Marm". Pixie is a polite girl, and very very well-behaved. After all, she's a well-bred bitch, expected to act up to her social standing. She holds her nose up with pride, even when yes, she likes to hide.

Then enter Data 7, the love interest.

Data 7 is still young - and mainly just wants to play. Pixie wants a little something more. To Pixie, Data 7 was a dog who could get big - a burly impressive dog who could defend her honor, protect her, and inspire within her such positive feelings. Such positive feelings. As forbidden love goes, Pixie would often speak of the desires of the heart she faced, but was unable to commit, knowing that it was up to her dear Osgood to decide if she could engage in such romance. Private meetings outside the room? Occasionally, a scandalous lick to Data 7's snout? Torrid.

Data 7 doesn't get any of this, of course. He doesn't quite understand love (or whatever is attached to it). And so his engagements with Pixie become transactional - requesting play, or roughhousing, in exchange for attention. Then gifts! Pixie was having her feelings somewhat toyed with, but also was getting doted upon... we all remember that pivotal moment when Pixie first barked at Lush. One single bark.

Pixie would start to get more bold and adventurous. We all had little Christmas solo sessions, in which every one ended with Pixie showing up with a sack, expecting a present from each PC. She collected such items as a napkin, and gold teeth, and a can of beans, and a magic soda, and actually some good stuff like a golden tiara or whatever from Lush.

Pixie was out of control.

Eventually, Data 7 had spent long enough trying to boost Pixie's ego and get her to be tough that she flipped the narrative. Data 7 had been playing her. She no longer had to play with him. If he wished to play games, then he could do it with the cats. Pixie turned her nose up at him, and would pine no longer. In the process, as Data 7 was involved in a gang with animals (the Big Troubles), Pixie started her own gang, the Passable Persuasions. A gang not meant to be a gang but more to take territory, clout, and members from Data 7's.

Pixie has gone from this meek well-to-do girl into a woman in love, a woman scorned, and a woman very well-aware of how she deserves to be treated... perhaps more so. Pixie likes to go to human PC's and make demands of them, of course, not being understood by any (except Minerva who is Atlantean). She calls Pepper a troll, demands pets from others, and wants nothing to do with the snake on Saoirse's arm (her wand, Twiggy)... until she got brave enough to pick him up with her mouth. Pixie has gone so far, perhaps developing more than any other character, save a small handful.

Pixie is represented well by her trademark line: "Sir!" Whether inspired, in awe, surprised, blushing, offended, or more... "Sir!" is Pixie in a nutshell. I mean, just look at her:

It's even got to the point where we've equated Pixie to Diane Lockheart from the Good Wife, not that the personalities match so much as the appearance, but Pixie has recently learned how to STAMP and that has had much effect on this.

Overall, this is just one of the most bit characters from a comic that is turned into something absolutely amazing because Scar doesn't have to try to aim to fit an existing character or his own interpretation so much that he can just take an idea and run with it until the point where it HAS to turn into something else, and keep running with it then. Really, a lot of avenues open when animals are allowed to be characters the same as people.

God help Osgood when we rescue him and he sees what has become of his girl. And God help Big Troubles when the Passable Persuasions come a-calling. And God help Pixie - she deserves it.

Note: Pixie was given a salve by Data 7 that gave her extra size and strength, and she fought, helping to defend our base when Kobra attacked.

For this I'll go with...Stargirl.

It's characters like Pixie and how much they seize in the mind of the party that keep me going. Pixie has been a little light on the action as of late, but I've always got ideas swirling around in my head for her, when people are ready.

My guess here is Nanaue.

Pixie is great. The problem is her two biggest influences have given their worst traits to her. My poor girl.

Honorable Mention: Human Target (Chris Chance)
Chris is a man with a perfect disguise. We knew he was a fake when we first found him, as he was pretending to be Mario Falcone, whom some party members knew from Gotham, but we didn't expect him to be a good guy!

Chris came back to base, and occasionally surprised us when the person we were talking to removed their face to reveal it was Chris Chance all along!

Now he's in the field and I miss him.

This is probably too low for Thom but it's a very good hint for Thom

I'm tempted to just end up saying Enchantress here, even though I'm not sure one can say "used to" with her, seeing as we have all this antagonistic stuff that she has around her. Whether it be with stealing a soul or fighting with Constantine.

19. Bobo Benetti

Who's got two mitts and about to introduce them to ya kisser?

That's right, it's ol' Bobo Benetti, a man what used to be on the wrong side of the law until the Starman helped put him on the straight. Now he uses his relative invulnerability and super strength to put some blue lummoxes in their places and bob's your uncle.

Bobo speaks like he's straight out of New York, fitting a classic style of speech that endears him as a man out of time but also a man where you can trust you know what you're going to get. He's got a strong character - IS a strong character - and you're nothing but glad to have him around.

Despite him being a little silly at times and a little self-indulgent to where it can be harder to get to straight answers from him, but he's only lovable for it. Scar is a huge fan of the character, so he always enjoys playing him. And Scar is really good at code switching, so we get a very clear voice from Bobo, who always has a variety of things to say but in a very clear and defined voice.

Opal City always representing.

Hint for 18: Another PC romantic/sexual interest.

as much as I jokingly want to pick The Shina, this feels like June.

and Bobo is one of those characters who is a bit weird to just talk to straight-up (although him proposing Roz'etta turn into Rocky Marciano was hilarious), but he's one of the best supporting characters in the campaign, he adds to conversations a lot.

I definitely could see June dropping here.

18. Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes)

Jaime fluttered around this list more than most. He's probably fluttered around quite a bit during the campaign. See, we found Jaime as he was being taken over by a symbiotic alien entity giving him a super suit of which to fight against injustice with.

We brought Jaime home, and very quickly he jumped into the role of teenager-who-doesn't-know-when-to-shut-mouth. He's heroic by nature - the idea of consorting with villains doesn't rank highly for him. But he was also very immature. So he mouthed off to Lush (who was a villain in the past) quite a bit, leading to an incident where Lush accidentally hit him with a sword. No big deal, really. But Jaime was sort of like that a lot - lovable idiot, bumbling around.

Early on, Jaime also worked in the kitchen! He needed something to do, so he attended to Ferdinand (the kithotaur chef of Wonder Woman) as a sous chef. And oh, Jaime was terrible, ah, terrible at it. Jaime was fraught with making mistakes none of us would make, and despite attending debriefings, had difficulty ever really putting anything together with himself.

Now, eventually some love quindrangle thing popped up. Jaime may have been an idiot, but he was helping ferry people across the border. He had a friend named Brenda who there seemed to be something with, but she was left behind. Jaime was brought home, and Pepper started talking to him. Then we eventually got Traci 13 to base and she was talking to him as well, strategically in a way to shut down Pepper. And then Traci became disenamored thanks to Saoirse and in the process took Pepper's interest off a peg by having Jaime smooch with Misty who thought she was a Star Sapphire and the entire time Brennus got nowhere because Jaime isn't into guys, and it was all just a whole lot of drama.

I think one of the things that pushed Jaime out the door however, aside from all the girls who liked him suddenly shunning him, and Pepper who he maybe would've had something with if not for the combination of Traci's manipulations and Pepper making drugs and killing people wantonly, was probably that we brought Harley Quinn back. See, early on, Jaime asserted that Lush was crazy. "Harley Quinn crazy". Such a phrase becomes dangerous when Harley Quinn is around.

It may have been around the time that a piano was dropped on Jaime that he decided to leave. Temporarily.

Jaime hitched a ride with the Convoy for the rest of the journey down south. He was able to get some distance, come into his own as a hero, and on return, lit up with a new fervor, reinforcing his lovable but stupid way of acting at time, giving him a sad edge as he can't confront his parents (who know he has an alien suit which is bad since his dad is xenophobic), and having just an ounce more capability than before.

When it comes to Jaime, he's always able to provide a youthful energy to a scene. Sometimes in a way that annoys people, sometimes in a way that is just flat hilarious, but Jaime's been with us since early on, and after the tribulations he's been through, has become a powerful ally whose dumb way of looking at things is always good for a laugh.

Hint for 17: It'd be fair to say this character has/had a rivalry with a PC.

Jaime's goofiness is adorable, and he was done real dirty by Traci and Saoirse's machinations.

For this I'll go with Alice.

17. Thinker (Clifford DeVoe)

When we first arrived at Z'onn Z'orr, we were treated with Amanda Waller, Checkmate Agents, some heroes, and a villain. One villain in particular - the Thinker. Now, his reasoning for joining was obvious - the airwaves and systems of tubes and everything of the planet were being taken over by the Anti-Life Equation. It was simply impossible for the Thinker to keep his mind. So he was forced into servitude, standing with the last great resistance on Earth.

Thinker is a jokester. He has tremendous intelligence, only being surpassed by Lex Luthor and Batman (and maybe Mister Terrific), as well as the processing power to use it. He runs our base. He is our base. He's everywhere. And because he is so omnipresent, he amuses himself the only real way he can - by fucking with people.

It's not uncommon for him to choose to address a player with a dry pointed sarcastic name, or when a player requests something to have him say it's for a different purpose. Thinker straight up said that Roz'etta was taking lewd photos of herself to Pepper. Just because Pepper would freak out and think it's true. Nobody is safe from Thinker when it comes to this. Nobody.

Early on, he even spoke with Brennus and tricked him into doing stuff to assist. Thinker had problems that only Brennus could help with. Brennus followed along... and shut down tower systems. Thinker framed Brennus... for fun. At least, that's what it seems to be. I mean, why else?

Despite his nature, Thinker seems fully committed to the cause. I mean, he has to be. He could shut down heating systems and kill us all very easily. That would suck. But yeah, Thinker has been a presence since before Week 2, and he's always been a very pleasant asshole to work with.

Hint for 16: This is a character who, at one or more points, could be said to have transformed into someone else.

This is too obviously Alice to be Alice.

So Fire.

Thinker is a crucial utility component to the campaign, but thankfully I could mask him in something that is far more gripping, I think. Thinker has a certain clownish component to him, but I think it helps disguise the truth - that his existence is always threatened with a looming extinction.

My guess is Alice.

Guessing Freddy.

Oh, and one of the quiet things about Thinker is that he has some moments of being a real sweetheart behind that wit, even if it's in a blunt way.

Roz'etta apologizing to him only for him to respond that she doesn't need to apologize to him because he knows she's sorry is one of those moments. It's very 'I know' like Han Solo and Leia, even if he then immediately ruins it with another stroke of wit right after.

This motherfucker.

Jason was introduced as Pawn 905. One of the characters who is just at Z'onn Z'orr. He quickly acquired a quirk - has been there the whole time. He remembers things that the party has done, conversations with the PC's (that maybe didn't happen?). He was a bit of a sweetheart, and early on asked Lush for help with Saoirse. This will become a thing.

Jason was sort of just around for a bit, and eventually Saoirse gave him the time of day. Now, normally, it would just be a friendly how-d'yeh-do, but then he showed that he had discovered a cave filled with glowing multi-colored moss and Biologist Saoirse just lost it. After some other meetings and flirtations, the two hit it off.

Now, part of what was great about this relationship was that Saoirse was upfront about wanting nothing more from it and Jason seemed okay with that, though he'd lament to Roz'etta about it, he'd lament that he wasn't Lush. He always seemed to be surprised by Saoirse in one fashion or another.

Truth is, he wouldn't be around forever. Scar let me know that. So I had been poking other players to interact with him a lot. "Surely, we can get him to win one gauntlet before he goes" I said. Oh, poor me. Poor me from the past. See, after things had been taken care of for long enough, it was Jason's time to go. And he didn't die in an OMAC attack on the base, or anything like that I may have predicted. No.

He bit off Saoirse's lip, poisoned her, and proceeded to launch an attack on our base. Kali-Yuga.

And so, his transformation into Kobra complete, we were set to deal with the quick fallout. Middle of the night, Saoirse dying, Fastbreak and the president got shot, robots ALL OVER THE PLACE attacking people. Two fan-favorites, Abe and Jack, were revealed to be turncoats as well. A little girl, Helen Jordan, Hal's niece, got SHOT. Cheetah and Jesse Custer teamed up to defend the med bay. The Secret Six fended off 60 of these things until they blew up, and Bane was the only one who could go. The Body Doubles decided not to side with him, and excusing Bonnie getting shot in the process, had a time to shine.

Luckily, Spirit (Hombad's character) has the superpower of healing so my Saoirse didn't DIE and we could team up together and march to Castling to confront Jason. Now, Jason, competent, cutthroat, and successful, he managed to fuck us up bad. Waller got suffocated. All of Oblivion was trapped as they stole the doorknob to the bar... AND Star Sapphire Ring. And yet, we marched up to them in Castling, watched as Captain Lash was being hung in defiance to Kobra, then died due to Pepper accidentally killing him, and there was at least some surprise in Kobra as he saw Saoirse alive.

I got to wing him with a Pink energy beam and summon a giant Indian Mongoose to tussle with him.

It wasn't enough to beat him, but in the process, we killed Jack, captured Abe, recovered most everything, and he only managed to get away aboard one of our ships giving a little salute.

Now, everything Jason was was fun. Everything Kobra just did was mind-blowing and I loved the idea of having an actual archenemy. But everything since, all the fall-out? That's mattered as well.

Saoirse suffers from guilt issues, so I had more opportunity to play that up in the wake of this attack, especially since she had been working through them. After all, she had been sleeping with the guy and did not see this coming. People got hurt. A little girl got shot. Things were really fucked up.

We've about gotten to the point where the specter of that attack is passing by and we're able to move forward, but I think it will hang with us for awhile. Vengeance is something that can be put off, but make no mistake - at some point, we're gunning for Kobra. And Saoirse plans to kill him.

Hint for 15: This character does not reside in Z'onn Z'orr(or Oblivion or Castling).

Funny thing here is that everyone but my character just kinda went along with this without question, and he acted really offended when Spirit genuinely had no idea who he was. I'm still not sure if we were supposed to know him in character or if there was some weird thing going on tbh

Someone would say it's "on the nose", but having Kobra simply be a snake in the grass, taking advantage of the better nature of Checkmate so he could strike them at their most vulnerable, having gathered everything he needed, was something I thought was really great setup for the party's inevitable trips to Asia. It's going to be a blast.

Can't believe you're calling out Vis like this with the Kaliber hint. Or maybe this is Sally Beamish? That would be cool.
