ok Im gonna ask this now because its a thing I never get

also I probably asked it already at some point and then forgot the answer, but this time Ill totally remember

why the /they ?. They is gender neutral, it seems like it should be implicitly acceptable for everyone. I dont know how Im meant to interpret she/they in comparison to just she.

it is implicitly acceptable (when you don't know) for (almost) everyone but some people actively like "they." (such as people who have that as their only pronoun) I think I've mostly seen they combos with people who might lean masc or fem but don't 100% fit in either binary box, but all it really means is you can use both or either. I tend to kinda mix it up but favor "they"

^Yeah, it's a positive association with multiple pronouns. Nonbinary or agender identities themselves can also be a spectrum, or otherwise fluid

I would not make this universal across the board but to put my perspective more simply: he/they identifiers is basically "sometimes I identify as male. other times I do not strongly identify with any gender. either way I am comfortable with both pronouns"

It should be (and kinda is, especially if you don't know their gender/pronouns) but FYI a lot of people will use "they" for trans people who exclusively use she or he in a weird attempt to, like, misgender them while still trying to be perceived as an ally. This isn't really what you were asking about but just thought I'd mention it!

It's something some people do to 'hedge' against someone's preferred pronouns because it makes them uncomfortable. While they/them is a good generic pronoun for people, it is bad to use they/them for a trans person who doesn't use they/them when you aren't using they/them for cisgender people in the same context. It is bad to use she/her for a cis woman and then turn around and use they/them for a trans woman, for instance (unless otherwise stated to be ok). People do this both knowingly and unknowingly.

It's mainly about consistency I think, like if someone uses names frequently normally about everyone then honestly it's just nice, like yeah I like hearing my name used by people.

It gets really obvious though is if it's a habit specifically used only for trans/non-binary that you're intentionally trying to avoid pronouns for. Because with you'll then quickly be noticed referring to other people and catch the pattern.

I should also reiterate though that misgendering is often going to happen early into coming out, particularly someone you've known a long time, so it's expected and nobody's going to think much of it at the start. Using names excessively sometimes happens here just to avoid the slip-ups but it runs the risk of that becoming the new habit instead.

I'm also not a fan. I absolutely hate having to wear a name tag at work because I don't like when strangers use my name as if they know me. It's just always bothered me a lot.

Gonna have to give me another example than this as an example for this having existed in 1375.

This is likely just someone saying each man implies more than one man which makes plural men and thus they.
