Sure.

So this is a great concept that I really love. However I feel as if it was not immediately clear how it was going to work and as a host and player I feel like the game is much more enjoyable if everyone is at least aware that there is going to be a switch of some kind so it puts people on an even playing field and the less speculation you have to do the better as any alignment.

Really though an amazingly fun design decision and the flavor names were really thoughtful and enjoyable.

I feel like IGCD jumps to mind though. He has gotten very sharp when it comes to being able to figure things out and parse through people's words to perceive intent, he just needs to have to have that mindset of 'the point of mafia is to have fun and do your best' and realize 'your best' isn't afking. Just try, succeed or fail, and good things will happen more than not. He's really good when he can have that drive.

Sultan also low key is solid these days as well and gets really disrespected for no real reason. Like he's for sure a lot more sound than many people here and people act like he isn't.

I am sure there are others but those two come to mind.

I like them a lot better in binary low power setups where there is a risk to revealing information willy nilly. It's like a less powerful prosty though so its a bit of a weird place for them. I don't find them very exciting.

How can I make a final fantasy style Mana system work in a mafia game.

I have literally tried to make it work in my head for 15 years now and can't come up with a workable model

Town was awful and did not lynch a single scum iirc. Scum also had a bunch of fake claims that basically all 'confirmed' each other as town. I spent the last day posting in all caps how it could not be possible and X people HAD to be scum because otherwise it was a completely broken game. One town voted town and scum like 5 person hammered.

It was very frustrating and I remember you being so defeated because the game sucked so much.

Abandoning any pretense of a normal game. mtgsalvation had a lot of these type of games that were heavily gimmicked. I think one was actually very RPG like that was my only town defeat the year I won best player over there to a guy having a monster scum game. Once you abandon the need for it to be normal things can get highly interesting.

Well, I ran a very gimmicked game once with HP, MP, and Final Fantasy Job System.

I can see a much simpler version existing where players start with a set amount of MP, have their own movepool of potential moves they can choose to use at day or night, and with a couple special ways to replenish MP. Mafia could share MP like in Chri's recent kingmaker game.

Thanks Chris. A lot of it is confidence to be honest. I get so deep down conspiracy rabbit holes that it muddies my view of the game because when I'm wrong about one thing it makes me lose confidence in all my thoughts.

Sultan's been in the top percentage of logically thinking Town in the past few games I've been involved with.

Sultan's quite good as long as he doesn't have to think around power roles. Like if mafia was all vanilla town and scum I bet he'd win more than most people on b8.

champs being no roles is nice.

Beware the sultan of slam

If Sultan didn't post his game, I was gonna make one that only had a small amount of roles (doctor, cop, and godfather). That way I wouldn't need to worry about balance.

Perhaps someone should do that next, whether it's me or someone else.

How do I get better at town reads?

So how I do town reads is by imagining two threads. One a scum and one a town thread and I try to trace a pattern to see if it makes sense.

So ben mentioning sultan the way he did and sheep's whatever response to me asking him about ben were very scum thread aligned last game.

Whereas scum plum has very little reason to pick a fight with kirby over walls day 1 and further given he went from scum to town it made sense he would find them less scary - because he has nothing to be scared of, so thats a town plum

I mean some of it is 2 decades of playing experience and quick thinking but yeah write it out and it can help

I'm pretty sure this is because his spelling and punctuation is not great so people just assume he's not very smart
