Not sure why I'm so pissed. Maybe because I wanted to like it, but it kept fighting me on it.

I'm not really sure what to say since I've eat he Re:zero in full 3 times and don't even know what you're referring to.

He's fighting that black haired lady in ep. 3. While "summoning up the courage to fight" or some such, Subaru turned to the camera and said, "and for those at home" or something dumb.

For a guy who should have been in Madoka Magica mode by now, Subaru kept acting like a tit. The writing kept doing this wink and nod stuff, and drove me up a wall. I just never understood what the show was trying to go for. It has moments of brutal edginess centered around a weird "say everything aloud so even the five years old understand this is what we're doing" meta humor.

He's not turning to the camera there, that's just how he talks at this point in the series, like he's not taking this seriously as a real place.

At no point in Rezero do they ever break the 3rd wall. There is no wink and nodding, he's being a little shit because right now he's still just some Otaku neet.

Actually that's not true.

There is exactly one meta joke in Rezero and it's that there's a big orange cat named Garfield in season 2.

I will say that even though I enjoyed Re:Zero overall I still think Suburu is probably the most annoying protagonist in any media I've ever consumed. the show is basically good in spite of him. i understand why he's like that as far as the plot goes but that doesn't make him any less annoying, really.

I think if the show stopped talking at me like I was an idiot, I'd be less annoyed.

Ugh. It's like they are speaking aloud their class, stats, superpower, motivations, etc, rather than talking like a person. Even if a character is a stock characters, the show should convince me they are not just blabbing out a character creation sheet.

Not sure I am describing it the best. It just seems, unnatural and off-putting.

I love character growth more than just about anything, and the bigger gap between a characters starting and ending point the better. As such I love the hell out of my boy Barasu.

I definitely understand liking a show in spite of its protagonist. Like, I enjoyed Monogatari overall but I hated Araragi so much. I know plenty of other people enjoy him though, not everything is for everyone!

Twelve Kingdoms started. Already my speed. Hearing all the old school VAs from the early 2000s is a nice bonus.

I ended up buying One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 when it was on sale. Obviously, I can only play the first half of the story mode lol.

I like playing as Crocodile a lot

I think I liked Subaru less as Re:Zero went on, for the record. Not big on the show in general though.

The previous ones were musou games but with more attack variety. Characters had a bunch of different button combos to do different moves.

Would need to listen to the others to judge the rest but those are all the ones I own so I listen to them regularly plus the recent ones.

One Day will always be my favorite. That's my favorite arc. That entire 2009-2011 period of the Naruto/One Piece/Bleach will always be nostalgic to me.

Subaru is fine.

i don't think actually think my hate while watching that show will ever be matched. incredible that it even got to the levels i did because i always just dropped shows quickly if i didn't like it even back then.

Still one of the best anime of the decade

Still buying all the LNs and can't wait for S3.

I wouldn't say I hated Subaru either. He had good moments and bad moments and it kind of averages out to "meh".

I finished High-Rise Invasion. I enjoyed it quite a bit! The violence was so over-the-top that it turned a grim premise fun. I enjoyed all the characters, including the various gimmicky mask enemies, but Yuri was my favorite. It was nice having an anime protagonist who strived to remain a good person in a harsh world without it making her weak or turning her into a moron who only survives by luck. The premise was still the real star. I love the strange world they created, and it somehow managed to stay interesting and coherent even when they started explaining rules and adding more oddities. My only real complaint is that the season didn't conclude the story much, so unless there's a second season this is woefully incomplete.

A few more episodes into Twelve Kingdoms. So much to like about this.

The idea that Aokiji and Akainu had such a big battle that it totally distorted this one islands weather is pretty cool though

I just saw that she is murdering the main character a few times and I think to myself 'people sure do love those murderous maids. Will gladly watch on!

Also end of episode 8 (or close) where he breaks down crying is his best moment so far. Pro MC tbh

First anime of the season complete. I made a post with glowing praise for Ya Boy Kongming after three or four episodes, but I thought the last 2/3 of it wasn't as good. Not that it ever became bad, it just didn't stay a 10/10 (which to be fair is a pretty high bar for any show to clear). I blame it on Kongming fading into the background a bit, two long arcs that could've been shortened without losing much, and bizarre choices like having Eiko and others sing the exact same song several times across different episodes. It was still awesome to see the stratagems come together, and when Kongming and Eiko were acting as a team the show was still great. I hope there's a second season someday, and that it'll have more of them together climbing the music industry ladder!

To be clear I though you were implying "Rem is popular because she's a cute maid girl and that's it", which is definitely not the case. Just about every major character in this show gets tons of development, though for some it's not until season 2.

If I'm remembering my episodes right, episode 8 is indeed a strong one.

The show never slows down at all in this first season, just a wild ride all the way through once it gets going, and you'll almost never expect where it goes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kohaku and Hisui were part of the inspiration! They share a lot of similarities (though they're fully realized unique characters too).

Trigun manga's not that good... though part of that was due to the bad art, so who knows.
