Well this is easy, there is no act structure that really works like Oda's as far as I can tell, unless he really is just doing his own thing, but then there's no set of expectations. If he wasn't using any typical act structure, then we wouldn't even know how many to expect, which is pretty much the opposite effect you wanna have when doing something like that. And Act 3 stretching from the backstory, through the action climax, AND the resolution just makes no sense to me.

I take to this mean him "You're gonna lose to Luffy." I'm actually fine with BB not being the actual final villain. I prefer it because of how he was revealed during Marineford, but I kinda consider the series having "multiple" final bosses in a sense, because the Akainu thing also needs to happen. He just doesn't seem like a character that's getting stronger like BB.

Yeah it's because of these guys. As the arcs get longer, the villains more built up, they become more complex and important to the narrative. We had a very good understanding of Big Mom and Doflamingo's motivations, but wtf happened to Kaido? There's even a pretty clear arc of him going from being a happyboy to a sadboi that feels like it's begging a question like with the King flashback. Most of the other flashbacks involving him just place him as a villain. We did learn at the end about his desire for a world of battle, but there's been quite a bit more hinted at.

Also it's not like the Kaido/Luffy fight was short. It started with roofpiece, they went like 3 rounds. It was probably longer than the Doffy fight. No idea why you are worried the Blackbeard fight will be a quick clash.

I'm only saying it feels cut short by like 10%, maybe even 5%. We don't even have a confirmed case ether of them used Awakening either. I just expected one more phase of the villain rallying.

I will agree that the act structure makes no sense atm. It truly seems like they forgot to put an act transition between the flashback and the raid.

Also do we know what Oda considers to be the Sagas? There is an argument to be made that all of Paradise is one interconnected saga from Baroque to the War. The same way everything from Punk Hazard to Wano seems like an interconnected saga.

It's true it's not about the raw length, but no other main fight, since like maybe Hody, was there such a quick turnaround from the second to last fight and the final fight. The final phase of Doflamingo was basically uninterrupted for a while. We only got Gear 5 immediately after one chapter of Snake man, right after the Big Mom fight. And I got my gripes with how that was used too. Without even knowing the trigger it's hard for me to feel like it's as earned as almost any other fight. Why now? I'm sure it'll be explained later but it feels lame.

Actually there was that line about how it's when your abilities catch up to your strength or something. I guess that's fine.

Fair enough. I never expect Oda to be predictable and just go along with his pace. He has been leaving tidbits out so the anime has some things to work with.

Personally I think BB is going to be a low diff fight. He's going to grab Luffy and then get one shot in retaliation. His entire crew and theme is the pursuit of devil fruits and taking the easy way out and doing cowardly things. Luffy's crew is battle hardened. And if we are comparing spheres of influence and "fleet size", BB is probably looking at half the New World vs whatever crew he has assembled now...

Even if that theory were true the most you would get was a face off before it cut away.

But I also don't think it is true at all. If anything he would be going after the Rev army and their devil fruits. Or Whole Cake to claim the Poneglyphs.

Also, continuing watching Spy x Family, Ascendance of a Bookworm, and Shield Hero as episodes are released. Spy x Family and Ascendance continue to be as good as usual.

Shield Hero seems to have fallen off a cliff pretty badly though. I get the feeling that's what was going on all Season 1 after eps 1-2, but there's like...no edginess to this show anymore. It's just focusing on "stuff" that has little to do with all the Waves and battles and fights and stuff. Naofumi isn't learning all that fun Shield junk either. He also has a new actor that isn't all that expressive (though they had no choice to replace Kametz...bleh).

The show still has Raphtalia and Filo, so I'm not going to give up just yet. But the sooner some dark shit happens to that stupid green haired girl, the better. She's part of the boredom.

That's a good choice, and good timing because, speaking of Iruma-kun, I just finished the second season of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun

It is indeed a fun anime. The more 'serious' arcs in each of the seasons were my least favorite parts, but even there it never went too far. Like, some anime I've seen were mostly fun comedies but randomly descended into dark arcs sometimes and completely fell apart under the strain of competing tones (Devil is a Part-Timer, I'm looking at you). Iruma-kun at least stayed upbeat even when things got a bit more serious, and always remained enjoyable. Still, I definitely preferred the more day-to-day stuff or smaller arcs where it was just Iruma's good-nature and luck getting him through situations while all the other characters are being zany around him.

I liked the second season a lot more than the first. Ameri and Clara are still my favorites, but almost every side character really stepped up and had their time to shine this season. There were two arcs evil cycle Iruma and personality-changed Ameri that were straight-up perfect.

I'm excited for the third season to come out in the fall!

Everyone knows the next series should be a prequel with Roger, then a prequel with Dragon, and finally a parallel series following the other Supernovas.

Then maybe a Coby sequel.

I'm excited for quite a few shows next season, but it feels too early to really start talking about them. My tentative waifu is the suspicious maid because it's from the author of Jahy and the maid looks like Jahy and Jahy is great.

I'm also really looking forward to Phantom of the Idol. I have yet to encounter an outright bad idol anime (granted I avoid the ones that look terrible) and a ghost idol sounds fun

Unfortunately I don't think that settles the debate. Oda will have to edit the Vivre card and merchandise before he can erase all doubt. There's already a huge fight going on in the reddit spoiler thread lol. It's not like OP doesn't already have trans characters, I don't get why Oda had to make this mess in the first place. It was clear as day even before that because of Vivre card and manga interactions. Nobody had any issues with it. And nobody has any issues with Ivankov being both male and female. Or Bon Clay or any other okama.

This is just an issue with Oda treating the manga's audience as his 14 y/o self. Kinda like how Toriyama had no filter for Bulma or Goku's nakedness.

Oda unfortunately labeled Yamato as female in the Vivre card, and also in the manga introduction as "Kaido's Daughter". So now people are thinking Yamato in the men's bath as a character quirk and a tomboy gag rather than pronoun/gender thing.

Though I wasn't able to complete my attempt at catching up on all of Ikkitousen, I decided to watch Shin Ikkitousen anyway. It was only 3 episodes, and I still regret wasting my time on it. In fact, I'm a few episodes into Xtreme Xecutor, and while I kinda like it, I don't know if I want to continue it because SI was so bad

I rewatched the first season of The Demon Girl Next Door. It had a bit of a lull in the early-mid episodes when it was just Shamiko getting tricked by Momo over and over, but once all the characters were in place it became as good as I remembered.

Now I can finally start the currently airing season two! It'll have all the characters from the beginning so I hope it doesn't have any low points
