PotD is kinda like the internet version of a childhood blanket.

I dont need it anymore and its a worn thin tattered version of its former self, but its still comforting to be around.

It's been that for years now. It's a large part of why I would occasionally just hide out in the Geek topics and mostly ignore the rest of the board.

I definitely feel the same tbh. Topics aren't nearly as interesting as they were when I first joined over a decade ago

Oddly enough, I lost interest with most of the boards around the time I became a moderator. Haha!

Avoiding all the political themed topics does wonders for your mental health though.

I still say the site should require a mandatory "Politics" tag on every topic or post discussing them. With the option for users to auto-block every topic or post with the tag to filter out all the bullshit. It adds nothing of value to the site and is a huge part of a lot of the hostility.

You should pass that idea on to Allen at the next corporate meeting. I'm sure he'll ignore it like he ignores all good suggestions, while getting hyped about something totally lame that winds up breaking the site because he's shit at coding. But at least we'll have tried!

That is kind of where the idea for topic flairs came from, just they aren't enforced on boards unless they have topicality rules.

Unless we want to start enforcing topicallity on PotD again, I am sure THAT will go over well.

Simply put make your own topics and have a conversation. No point in moaning about what others post.

But the thing is, there's kind of no point to them on any board that has topicality, except to chase fads because you've seen other sites do it. Because they'd pretty much by definition be off-topic. The only boards where they really need to be used (and potentially enforced) are the off-topic boards, where discussion can run the full gamut of subjects.

Not that doing things just because other sites do them is anything new here. Or for that matter, doing things that other sites do without actually understanding why or how other sites do them, sort of making them pointless.
