It's weird

I only like it for Smash... but I really like it for Smash for some reason.

I like the triggers. Very satisfying. Thats about it.

Oh right and what the guy above me said. It's the perfect smash controller.

Looked strange, worked phenomenally.

Even Nintendo themselves, who rarely ever make anything to accommodate their older products, acknowledged how popular that controller was by making an adapter to allow its use with the Wii U as well as a docked Switch. Sure, most of that was because they know Smash fans loved it and Smash makes money, but that doesn't change the fact that they did it.

Gotta agree. The main joystick is cool, but the dpad is way too small and the C stick sucks.

That's why I like the ps3 controller, perfect controller to use on gc emus since you can adjust the pressure so it plays accurately

Xbox 360 still goat controller

Future Nintendo controllers are either crap or obscure.

The d pad, c stick, and the assymetry of the z button are all really weird. But the face ABXY buttons made controls really intuitive. A is the button for whatever you're doing most (jumping, confirming menu selections, etc), so it's big and centered. B is a good secondary button. X and Y are in weird spots, but that makes them memorable and they're positioned around A for easy access.

Idk what it is, but the diamond layout every controller has now makes it way harder to remember what everything does. Like you can't just place your thumb on the middle button by default and feel your way around at a moment's notice as easily. All the buttons feel the same, so I forget which of X and Y does each thing. Idk, the weird, inelegant GCN layout was cool.

Must've been just people with baby hands that enjoyed it because otherelwise I found that the C stick was insultingly horrendous qnd harsh on the thumb, dpad was too small, and the single Z trigger was an absolute joke.

I hate it.

I love it for Smash. I tried using a regular Switch controller for Smash and i mostly liked it, except all the face buttons feel like that same kind of circle... so close, but no cigar.

With the gamecube controller, you have big circle for standard attacks, small circle for specials, and two magic beans for jump!!

It's like some weird cartoon controller you'd see on an episode of the Simpsons or Family Guy or something. It doesn't look like something that should actually exist.

It only looks odd visually. Ergonomically, it was easily the best designed controller up to that point in gaming, period. Maybe the PS4 and Xbox One controllers finally surpassed it, but it took a long time.

the octagonal gate analog stick was amazing

but overall, nothing yet has beaten the DualShock 1 in terms of shape and design

I loved the GC controller except for this one part in Shark Tale where you have to press buttons to the rhythm of a song in certain sections and I would fuck up all the time because the face buttons were placed so differently. Look at this shit:

Its my favorite controller of all time. Even though the D pad and C stick are pretty crap tbh, the rest of the controller is perfect imo

I love the ergonomics of it, visually it's kind of awkward; but in practice, it's great.

I have original & PowerA's officially licensed versions of the GameCube controller.

They work great.

The PowerA version has a larger D-Pad to fix the old issue of tiny D-Pad and Dual Shoulder Z-buttons on both sides.

The only thing they're missing is "Rumble" & NFC communication with Amiibos.

Both are features I don't care about.

The triggers were perfect for smash bros and having notches for the left analog stick is always nice. Everything else about it was terrible.

Switch pro controller (models without the bum d-pad anyway) is the GOAT.

The N64 and Gamecube controllers were weird in that there was a subset of games they really worked with, but were awkward for most everything else.

I always figured it was because because playing Smash with Wiimotes on the Wii was something no one wanted, and then when pro n klassic kontrollers started becoming a thing, plain ol wired kontrollers had a fraction less input lag or something. Kinda like how some diehard fans choose an old CRT TV instead of LCD or whatever.

I never cared for the Gamecube controller, The shoulder buttons felt mushy as hell compared to the tap of the PS2 analog buttons and the later 360's triggers. Even if they were analog, it felt too much like I had to slam on them to hit a switch in the controller rather than the smooth analog feel of the Xbox controller's triggers. Hell, you know the triggers were the right way to go when Sony did a craptastic copy of the idea for the DS3 controller.

Then there's the issue with the tiny b button gunking up easier than all the others.

I think a lot of it was just from *anything* feeling like a breath of fresh air after the... thing that was the N64 controller.

Its comfy, I like the button layout, I love the control stick.

Gamecube controller is garbage imo

Notched stick is awesome, the triggers are super clicky, and the orbital arrangement of the buttons just feels intuitive for games that were designed for the system

Dpad is booty tho

Easily my favorite controller.

The analog shoulder buttons were really nice and comfortable. It also had the best face button layout in gaming history. The B, A, and X buttons are all reachable just by swiveling your thumb, and only the Y button requires a change in the bend of the thumb knuckle.

The tiny d-pad and c-stick (for games that actually used them) are bad, for sure. And the Z button is awkward.
