Depends how bad it is. A mild one might not even be noticeable, a bad one can incapacitate you. If you've been formally diagnosed with one, listen to your doctor's recommendations as far as letting it heal go.

Is it curable if mild?

Edit: My lawyer told me about it. He got to speak to my doctor before I have gotten a chance to.

Treating it mostly boils down to "be careful not to make it worse until it can heal." Depending on the extent of it, you may have permanent damage, or you may be able to recover. In general, I'd recommend taking it easy (minimal lifting, try to avoid sudden movements or awkward twists/bends) until you hear from your doctor to advise you further.

Are you actually asking what the value of a herniated disc injury is? Because you mention a lawyer.

in my experience they "heal" but will easily rupture again. after a while you learn which ways not to move, and which ways to move if they do start up.

I had a pretty bad one in my cervical spine. It was compressing a nerve causing occasional shooting pain down my arm, numbness in my fingers, and muscle weakness. The doctor said I needed surgery ASAP or the nerve could be damaged permanently. These days it can be done with microsurgery, they only made an incision about an inch long on my back and didn't even use sutures to close up, they literally just super-glued it back together. It was outpatient, I went home just a few hours later, and my throat hurt more from the anesthesia tube than my back did from the surgery.

a laminectomy is usually done more for stenosis caused by arthritic changes. a majority of disc surgeries for herniated disc by lets say a car accident, are a type of discectomy where they go in and shaved down the part of the herniated disc that is protruding.

They have two ways of doing the surgery on the cervical spine, through the back, called a Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy, which is minimally invasive but only has about a 75% chance of success, or through the front, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion, which is nearly always successful but requires removing a portion of the bone then permanently fusing the vertebrae together. I only required a single PCF surgery. Football player Peyton Manning had the same kind of problem I did, but his first three surgeries were unsuccessful and he eventually had to have an ACDF.

I just wanna know how/why your doctor found that out, and then wasn't able to tell you before he told your lawyer.

But yea, it could be nothing or could be life-altering. If a lawyer is involved, make sure you get compensation for it potentially be life-altering

I watched Jeff Cavalier videos on Herniated Disks, did his exercises to "uncompress" my spine and whatnot until my pain went. Sitting around didn't help when I had to at least correct it after a mislift. Could not sleep. Could not lay day until I did.
