I'd say far right authoritarianism "excused" by mass disinformation about imaginary election fraud is by a very wide margin the largest threat the USA has faced in a very long time.

The left may not have been outright taken over by the extremists in the USA currently, but that is also something to watch. The unhinged cop haters that take legitimate concerns to the level of delusion and use that delusion to justify thier own hatred are an example.

So while the far right threat is currently by far the biggest looming threat to continued freedom in the USA, it is the conspiracy theories and any justification for hatred that are the root cause and as the social media mobs show the left isn't immune to that. They use the exact same lists of pseudo intellectual excuses racists and other people that push prejudice and hatred do, and likewise will attack (and block) anyone who points out that hatred and prejudice.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Don't excuse prejudice, name calling, and hatred all because you agree with someone. There is never an excuse for such things, period.

When talking about humanity, when extremist ideology takes hold that is the biggest threat. Putin making nuclear threats because his neighbors dare even be ready to defend against aggression is very bad.
