2nd place. Literally insane we would've won if not for the obvious. Just shows how well we do when we actually try/care.

Very happy for Ukraine though, they deserve it.

now that Australia is a permanent member, when will USA and Canada get rightful invites? scared USA might win every year?

Yeah congratulations to Ukraine, at least we were 2nd which is our best result in ages.

I just wonder who'll be the host for it next year as I'm not sure about Ukraine being able to. Perhaps there'll be a bidding process and a host will be selected.

USA has their own version now I thought, so I imagine Canada would join that if it actually picks up.

I suggested elsewhere a 25 Country Worldvision Song Contest

Basically it'd be the same format as Eurovision but 5 performers each from Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific (Australia would compete here) Caribbean & Europe would compete.

All nations would be eligible to vote but there would still be the rule where you can't vote for your own country.

In order to speed the voting up you could easily have it so that instead of having spokesperson they just show all the results as they go through each country.

I'd also introduce a rule whereby the song must be performed in the national language of the country they represent, I like hearing foreign languages and it would be much better than them singing in English unless it's their native language like Australia & UK.

Timezones it would be held at 8pm UK time, if it's held in the States then if LA hosts, the start time would be 12pm PT or the 8pm UK equivalent when clocks change. If it's held in NY then the start time would be 3pm ET or like LA adjust for clock change so that the event always starts at 8pm in the UK.

If Australia or NZ got it then times would adjusted to the 8pm UK rule.

Seeing as you can't vote for yourself, probably wouldn't win much.

It's a popularity contest. Too many people vote for neighbours or whatever instead of being objective.

If he were still alive I'd have thought Australia could win with Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

Maybe send a famous face like Darren Hayes of Savage Garden, or Delta Goodrem.

Yeah I came in from post #1. Bad habit of mine.

Australia got #15, the judges liked it but we only got 2 points from the votes lol. Congrats to Britain!

It was a fairly decent song, but his performance last night elevated it a bit: it was the best he'd done it so far, and I'm absolutely buzzing for him coming second.

Ukraine absolutely deserved the win, theirs was incredible. Looking at the maths I think they must have got 12 points from almost every country in the public vote. What a moment! Sweden was fantastic, too, I would have liked to see them in the Top 3.

The one that I'm surprised didn't do so well was Moldova, they were one of my favourites.

Same this time, in the sense of (understandable) sympathy votes. While I generally just watch a few songs after the event itself, I'm always curious to see what the winning song sounds like.
I turned it off a few seconds after the rap started.

Pretty curious to see if next year's event actually will take place in Ukraine.

the ukraine song slaps but I do think they won due to sympathy votes. it's hard to say, I'd call it top 3 but not sure if it was *the* best song.
surprised that UK came second, the song was okay but I wasn't that big a fan. could they have won if not for the war?
and I amazed that sweden, belgium, australia, portugal, france and a few others got anything above 0 points. some really lame low effort songs

It's not a sympathy/pity vote but a solidarity vote. A vote to show we love them and Russia can go fuck themselves. A vote to show we care and love Ukraine.

Eurovision was made to bring Europe together, and voting for a country currently forced into a terrible war is the most "eurovision vote" you could make.

But yes, as I mentioned before, is insane we in the UK went from standard bottom place to would have won it, if not for the war. Hopefully we can keep it up in the future, as shown we are fully capable of sending something good now.

The UK and Spain both finally got it right after about 2 decades of abysmal results due to lame songs. Put in the work, and you will get results!

The Top 6 this year is so incredible imo:

Ukraine
The UK
Spain
Sweden
Serbia
Italy

6 amazing songs and acts.

10 friends and I did our own vote where each person handed out points Eurovision style (1-8, 10 & 12 p).

We could not vote for our own country (Sweden).

1st: Ukraine with 91 points
2nd: Spain with 75 points
3rd: Serbia with 46 points
4th: UK with 45 points
5th: Czech Republic with 40 points
6th: Norway with 37 points
7th: Italy with 36 points
8th: Netherlands with 30 points
9th: Armenia with 30 points
10th: Greece with 30 points

We used the official tie breaking rule when countries got the same amount of points (most 12s, if same number then most 10s and so forth).

It works both ways; it is likely the UK got some votes (or many) because of our strong support for Ukraine as well. It's always been partly a popularity contest.
