Looked like it was right in front of her family too. The cop went 0 to 60 so quick.

Could have stepped back, closed the door, wait for back up or gone and grab a taser or something.

LAS CRUCES - The family of a 75-year-old woman killed by police demanded that the district attorney charge the police officer with murder during a news conference on Thursday.
The demand was accompanied by an announcement that the family planned on filing two civil lawsuits against the City of Las Cruces and its police department after an officer shot and killed Amelia Baca on April 16.

"Let me be blunt. Amelia Baca was executed by the Las Cruces Police Department," the family's attorney, Sam Bregman, told a gaggle of reporters at a news conference. "As a result of this senseless tragedy, the Baca family is respectfully demanding that the district attorney charge this officer with murder."

Too much work for the fatass. If your loved one is having a mental issue, dont call the cops. They dont know how to handle them. And conservatives are rallying against moving money around so we can hire people who do.

Incredibly sad, an elderly woman is dead and cops are stilled untrained and ready to shoot at every thing. America has fallen faster than Rome (but we were never a great empire like them)

You know how all Brit cops are trained to deliver the perfect "well well well, wot's all disden?"

That is more thorough de-escalation training than our cops get, but they also all get access to firearms.

I've heard that in US cop school, they basically teach you that the only people you can trust is other cops, and that everyone else wants you dead. I dont know if it was always like this but it sounds likecmodern cops get purposely taught to be paranoid. Also taught that their life is more important than a civilians life

He was close enough where he could have taken out her leg if he was that terrified. What's she gonna do, chase him down by crawling and cut his throat? Not that he even had to do that but she'd still be alive.

There was no reason to do a lethal body shot other than he wanted to kill someone. I hope the family wins their lawsuit and he goes to prison

@Zikten In our state the cops can get special training to deal with mentally unstable people. As you surely know we have a ton of drugged up/drunk people around here. The sad fact is that people call the police to deal with mentally unstable people and most cops just aren't trained for it. Hopefully that changes.

Here in AK they usually send in a K9 or something if the person is armed.

People are standing in the way of better training or social programs that work with cops for some reason. they act like its a bad thing.

Need to stand up to white people. The time is now

I hate cops more than anyone but this is not realistic. That level of precision in high adrenaline/anxiety situations isn't possible for the majority of actually properly trained marksmen, much less a generic pig.

Like I understand a 75 year old with dementia and a knife can be dangerous but it is plainly obvious from that footage that the officer was not in danger. He was looking for an excuse to shoot.

You have the family peacefully leaving the house followed immediately by him screaming commands and then gunning her down in front of her family.
