Presumably, to keep the peace within the workplace (and knowing that heated arguments around it aren't actually going to change anyone's mind, only cause tensions).

My stance is generally pro choice, but regardless of Ryan's stance on the topic taking the center ground isn't always the coward's way. We literally have to live by that ideology to remain free in our society. We can't make those we disagree with change their mindset or be forced to submit by harm or even death. That's crazy dictator type shit. Not defending Ryan, all I am saying is sometimes the only way to win is to not play.

100%

He should have been smart and kept his opinion to himself, or posted it anonymously, considering he works for a huge, world famous company. Would not be surprised if Playstation fires him because of the bad PR this will cause their brand.

Major companies cant afford to be partisan on issues like this. Especially international ones like Sony.

But the smart thing wouldve been to not bring it up in the first place.

The whole "agree to disagree" mindset just does not work with this topic. That's the entire reason why it's achieved the level of debate it has -- people aren't going to just be "respectful" of someone else's "opinion" that is trying to dictate their own bodily autonomy for them. Try telling any trans person to walk up to some hardcore bigot / TERF that wants to essentially delete them from existence and suggest that they should really just learn to get along; see how well that works out.

Not sure why all these uber-rich CEO-type people (almost always male too; imagine that) can't realize that and just keep their mouths shut. There was literally nothing to be gained but a big fat L out of doing this.

PlayStation usually doesn't care about this. They publically support Black Lives Matter and make a big deal about women in gaming (which also makes this look bad lol)

I think this is Jim Ryan thinking he could write up an email to cheer people up with this crap. He's an out of touch CEO who thinks people like his anecdotes about animals.

It's not the first time he's made really stupid quotes either. He's the guy who said 'who would play this?' when talking about old games.

If people are noticing a Jim Ryan quote it's usually bad.

Bingo. Playstation's forum is the only game system board with several open racist, non gaming related topics up at any given time and several game topics turn racist/political within 5 posts and go on for 300 posts. Been that way since PS2 was new, can still be observed on both PS4 and PS5 boards.

More examples of Sony doing/saying something they should not be doing/saying instead of chilling and doing their jobs. Why Openly support BLM/women when in REAL LIFE you're under a dozen+ lawsuits for specifically, racial discrimination and sexual harassment and mistreatemtn....of those same groups you "support". First line of "support" for women should be making sure your female employees can have a safe trip to the copy machine....lmao.

Companies have many avenues to deal with these things internally, but you have to end up in COURT for many incidents...just shut the fuck up Sony.

To be fair, those vehemently against BLM and women in gaming tend to be the alt right incel type. Tradcon dads and black/female conservatives tend to be ok with those. Abortion is more universal for all Republicans with Tradcon dads and black/female conservatives also against them.

Just remind all employees to not get into political arguments, let alone fights, while at work. Work on the damn console or get the fuck out. You can go work at Amazon in their gigantic new warehouse.

Btw, I had a teacher who used to tell us that if we wanted to fight another student, then we had to do it outside. In other words, dont make our drama his drama. We were fine with that.

I feel the mistake (assuming the report is correct) was specifically mentioning the topic of abortion in the company memo.

If it was more of a blanket statement of:

"We just want to remind our employees of the terms of our Employee Guidelines, which include refraining from internal discussions on politics, race, religion, etc. We must recognize that we are a diverse company with a multitude of diverse viewpoints, many which are polarizing. Please keep this in mind during your conversations and correspondences with our customers and your fellow employees."

That email largely gets ignored by the public, if it even gets released to the public.

its just sad that the loud minority, on the internet, think the opinion they disagree with is infact "wrong" rather than an opinion.

My sister said it meant a lot to her that our mother, who was pro-life at the time, respected her right to be pro-choice.

Our mother has since become pro-choice. She stayed home from church today because the guest speaker is an ultra-conservative type. She said if he had thanked God for the rights of the unborn finally being protected, she would have called him out in front of the church.
