Almost did for the Animal Crossing DLC, but I just bought it normally instead. Don't care about the N64 or Sega games, and don't have MK8 or Spla2n for their DLC to matter.

Huh that's pretty surprising to me. I use NSO to play online really, and the classic games are just a cool bonus.

No upgrade yet. I do have a few relatives on my family plan, so I'll consider it if any of them really want it.

I probably would enjoy the Mario Kart expansion but I haven't played Mario Kart since it started releasing.

And $30 a year is a lot to ask for all that. Gamepass gives you a bunch of full games. PS+ even gives you some. Nintendo gives you some DLC and emulated N64 games. The emulation wasn't even good at launch. Not sure about now.

Even unofficial N64 emulation isn't perfect. I guess we can cut them some slack there. Incidentally, how is the analog stick accuracy? Can you mess with the deadzone etc if it's not good?

My real issue is there's just not many N64 games that they can upload as a first party. They still got a decent amount of Rare stuff to eventually upload including Goldeneye

Back when it first launched Treasure did say they wanted to put their games on there but it hasn't materialized yet

Not sure why people would pay for busted emulation and limited games, when you can get optimal emulation, any game you want, and other cool things like cheats/achievements/ROMhacks for absolutely free.

Not buying it. I have the regular NSO. Mario Kart DLC is coming over a 2 year period. I paid $25 extra to keep all of it forever. Expansion people are paying $60 extra to play the Mario Kart DLC for only 2 years.

I did not purchase the expansion pack, and also did pay the $25 for the Mario Kart DLC. I didn't really want anything else on the expansion pack for now - a lot of the N64 or Genesis games I'd be interested I already own in some form or another anyway. I may buy the expansion pack in the future if it seems appealing enough, but buying the MK DLC by itself seemed like the better bet.

Update: Nintendo's official translation of the Q&A has now been released and differs subtly from VGC's earlier translation, specifically with regards to the proportion of Nintendo Switch Online users in the US who have upgraded to the Expansion Pack tier.
Nintendo's translation specifically highlights that the ratio of Expansion Pack members (versus overall NSO subscribers) is "especially high" in the US compared to other regions, meaning that territory has the most users subscribed to the higher-tier service.

Here's the direct quote from Shuntaro Furukawa from the relevant section of the Q&A:
The number of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members is steadily increasing, and its share among the overall Nintendo Switch Online subscriber-base is gradually expanding. By region, the ratio is especially high in the United States.

I'd do it if they didn't want a year up front. I'm not dropping all that money at once for something I use like maybe 4 or 5 times in a given month.

This is what we do too.
I wasn't sold with the Animal Crossing DLC, but Mario Kart's made it more worthwhile for the group of us.

You can pay base Nintendo Switch Online monthly; the expansion pack is annual (up-front) only.

I'm hoping one day they will add the Mystical Goemon games to N64 NSO because they run like garbage on Project 64.

The NSO emulator is... intriguing. It ran Mario Tennis better than any other emulator out there Day 1, for instance, but it struggled with OoT and took several updates to fix.
