Those numbers surprise me with how low they are for every series.

Speaking of Captain Marvel, I realized only recently that Monica Rambeau's increased role in Wandavision and her frustration with Carol's absence were simultaneously meant to alleviate concerns over Monica's portrayal in Captain Marvel being potentially racist (since she does nothing but cheer Carol on) and make Carol seem less "perfect". Huh. This is actually kind of interesting!

Im amazed how low those all are as well. The movies get millions upon millions of viewers and only a small fraction are even showing any interest in the Disney+ series? Makes me wonder how the SW series on there did

I wonder if having new episodes premiere along Kenobi is hurting Ms. Marvel. Some people just only want to invest a certain amount of time watching streaming shows. Last week I chose MM and waited a week before watching Kenobi. Some people might be doing the opposite.

I think they released both of them at the same time because they determined that Star Wars fans and Marvel fans don't have much overlap.

Starting to think that may not be true, or people just aren't into Ms. Marvel, which while I enjoy her, I can understand. She's new, has been billed as the (somewhat) annoying, bright-eyed young hero character, and it's been going a little more slowly, I feel.

If it's a lack of interest based on the character itself, Ironheart is absolutely going to be a dud since not even comic fans like Ironheart, whereas they at least like Ms. Marvel.

I haven't watched Ms. Marvel yet mostly because of some Marvel fatigue. I'll get around to watching it in a few months but I just have other stuff that seems more interesting

I wonder if the source of these numbers is underrepresenting Ms Marvels viewership. SambaTV only gets its data from smart TVs with their specific software or whatever, so if something was disproportionately watched by viewers on other stuff, the numbers would look worse than they actually are
Is a show whose audience skews younger going to have more of its viewers come from laptops/game consoles/whatever rather than a proper television? How similar is the demographic make up of SambaTVs users to the country as a whole?

Eh, I don't buy into that. If you're a kid are you going to suddenly want to see Ms. Marvel without watching any of the other Marvel shows? Is Ms. Marvel going to jump out at them that much more?

Like I'd prefer that Ms. Marvel be a giant hit, but I just don't think she is. She might be after the Marvels movie comes out, but I don't think this series is going to do it for her. There's no pre-existing characters factoring into this show when the rest of the series had them (save for Moon Knight), she's a new character in general without a long legacy, and there are no well-known actors in this show. Everything that is usually a draw for these series isn't there. Which sucks, but I don't know how you add in any of that to this series honestly.

I just hope Disney doesn't see it as a flop and not do more with her or another season.

This is my biggest concern. It worries me that companies don't actually give things a chance to grow and develop. If it isn't an instant hit it gets tossed aside.

In addition to competition from Obi Wan, Stranger Things and The Boys also dropped all at the same time. This has been a stacked as fuck month for streaming.

I don't think they're going to make any decisions on that until after Marvels comes out.

And concerning Marvels, I'm actually not tremendously excited for it until I hear whether or not Moonstone factors into it. I think Brie Larson is a bad Captain Marvel (and I absolutely love Carol Danvers in the comics), Ms. Marvel isn't doing it for me as much and I think we've had enough movies of wide-eyed children heroes loving on the legacy ones, but I do actually like Monica Rambeau right now and I'd like to see if they can give her more of the personality from the comics. I have no idea how Marvels will turn out though.

Edit: Anyone concerned about Ms. Marvel doesn't need to worry now though. She's got Marvels coming up, and then they're obviously using Phase 4 to set up Young Avengers as a priority, so she's going to be in that one too. Ms. Marvel isn't disappearing anytime soon.

I dont think the diagram is a total circle because one group is watching a series that has mostly still been good and the other one is watching a series that is like heavily junk

This. Unlike star wars, the MCU actually has a plan for where they want it to go. Ms. Marvel is already written into that future, she won't disappear. Besides, way more people have complained about Brie Larson but she's still going to continue on as Captain Marvel (hopefully she's more comfortable in the role now and we can get some actual characterization for her).

I think the main problem is that she's a young and new hero in a coming of age story, and that doesn't inherently appeal to a large amount of adults. However it's only two episodes in, and word of mouth is already excessively positive. So I predict it'll get a lot more attention once it delves more into the bigger story and her powers.

So most of the reasoning for Ms Marvel hate is for the stupidest fuckin reasons (anything about a brown girl is immediately woke) I'm also finding myself having to force myself to put it on? It's falling into a LOT of shitty tween romcom tropes. It feels like someone mixed Marvel with The Kissing Booth

I think both "Ms. Marvel is getting review bombed because it stars brown people" and also "I don't really relate to Ms. Marvel" can exist.

Yeah, the second episode was pretty uneventful until the last 5-10 minutes, so I can understand someone not digging it.

I watched the first season of The Mandalorian but that's it. My general apathy towards the films means I don't much care to watch the various series.

The only thing I like about Star Wars is Boba Fett, and by the time they got around to doing something in Mandalorian with Boba Fett, I decided that Star Wars probably isn't a thing to get back into.

I always find Boba Fetts popularity very curious. He was a nobody character that got killed off in the goofiest way.

I still feel like Disney is just progressively sucking the life out of every bankable aspect of the series without adding anything new to it. This from someone who considers The Mandalorian the best streaming series I've seen, even above Stranger Things or any of the Disney+ Marvel shows.

That's honestly how I feel though. I don't find the criticisms problematic, just the sheer level of vitriol aimed at Disney-era Star Wars, The Last Jedi in particular. There's disappointment and frustration, and then there's whatever this is. It frankly crosses the line into vindictiveness, spite, and downright entitlement.
