@SomeLikeItHoth
@SpiritSephiroth

my last topic purged awhile ago and I was busy doing other shit but now I have time to practice coding SQL and Python. I also use Tableau as well.

I have 2 interviews coming up for associate data analyst position next week so this kinda shows that I'm making progress.

I learned about using loops recently:

Nice fam. Good luck on your interview. How long have you been programming for?

Right now I'm going through this Complete JavaScript course. It's a pretty great course. I have been studying JavaScript for a few months now and I've finally reached a point in this course where I'm learning about things I haven't learned yet. I just learned about the spread operator which seems very useful, and my buddy told me to check out immer library so I'll probably look into that this weekend.

Just going to keep going through this course and hopefully finish this summer. Then I'll make a few projects for my website (which I haven't started yet) and hopefully be job ready by the end of the year.

thanks fam, i first started last year in November and I took it even more seriously 2 months ago. That sounds interesting bro, keep it up!

I practiced using the if statements today

Oh, nice. Where did you get that if statement from? It looks familiar.

Yeah. Just tough because I work a lot so I really only have a little bit before bed each night to practice, but I try putting in a solid hour of studying / videos each night.

Here's a coding challenge I had the other night. Most of these coding challenges only take me a few minutes, but surprisingly this one took me about half an hour. I also got 2 of them wrong.

I've been working through CS50 just to refresh some basics.
Applying for an internship tomorrow through ASU.
Still working on coding an RPG, got the barebones all set up to build upon. Will eventually need to learn how graphics work...

Im current enrolled in Unix Tools: Data, Software and Production Engineering. Class is kicking my ass. Its hard doing things all online for me when I can understand most material, but have to pause every now and then to look up and do what feels like tons of more research to progress throughout the class.

I think that's just how systems engineering and production support goes. There's a shit ton of lingo and vernacular that you have to know and everything expects you to know all of the concepts they build everything on.

I feel old, but I'm really not digging the way modern web development works. When I was first working on my computer science degree, the switch to everything--including desktop apps--actually being a web app hadn't happened yet. HTML, CSS, and JS have all advanced considerably, but JS is still a shitty language and the advancements don't mean as much when every front end and back end are hiding thicc node-modules folders that you need to support the shocking number of libraries needed to make anything, all of which do things differently.

When Microsoft invented WPF and XAML to create desktop applications, it was almost universally panned for being hard to write and understand. But compared to the experience of learning to create a modern front-end in React with redux-toolkit, it's nothing at all. Maybe if you use a paid solution the experience gets smoother, but I was shocked at how fiddly and unintuitive it is to create even a small, attractive page in React.

For the first one: '>' is output redirection and will overwrite the output of the log-file, '>>' is the append command and adds the output to the end of the file listed. The first command also fails because cat tries to "read" files, and it's basically trying to read each space in the date as its own file. The third command wouldn't work because date is separated by semi-colon thus making it two different commands. Like I said, fourth command fails because it's not appending, it's overwriting. Thus it should be the second command.

For the second one:
The first command gives the word count of all files that start "war-" (I guess?).
Second command fails if there's more than 2 files that end in "txt" (I guess not).
Third command makes no sense.
Fourth is cut off, but redirect the content of war-and-peace.txt to wc. `cat war-and-peace.txt | wc -w` That works, for instance.
Fifth is the same as fourth with an extra step. Both of these might fail depending on what got cut off.
Sixth: no.
Seventh, yes.

My apologies on uploading a cutoff picture, but getting everything in one shot has proven difficult. Maybe I can reupload on a different device? I'll see how much more studying I can do later today though! Regardless, thank you so much, you've been a blessing!

What would you do if you wanted to add another value to each key? For instance, favorite ice cream?

You'd make another dictionary, because dictionaries are key value pairs and you can't have duplicate keys. If you wanted to store a lot of different data about various users, a class that encapsulates that data would likely be most appropriate.

There's.... a lot of overhead in any modern web framework, and the documentation is always trash. That being said. The problems these frameworks solve, they solve very well, but you have to do a fun paradigm shift to operate their way. Dev sucks, yo.

I meant that as a kind of practice problem.
A class would be the most straight-forward solution, but if you just want to script something and maybe you have some things that won't change very often (like favorite color and ice cream), you can make a list of dictionaries.
