I think people need to acknowledge both that western europe is a better place to live than the US and that doesn't mean the rest of europe is, let alone most of the world.

It's best to just remember that their whole strategy is, explicitly, to do what conservative commentators do but in reverse, and basically ignore them. Their strategy is stupid and trashy, but they actually aren't some sort of false flag op despite appearances.

Just to chime in to an obvious statement here the US is very firmly atm still a top 30 country. That's overall pretty good in the scope of things. We are slipping though and God damnit I want healthcare

I would argue USA is probably around the teens, but I think we are squabbling specifics here. That's still a damn good place to live considering probabilities. If a person was randomly born today, landing in America would be lucky.

Our economy. Our economy has the resources to provide for its citizens much better. Also it depends on where in the US. The fact is if you compare certain places to countries you might be surprised how awful they are!

No way are we in the Teens. Lack of access to healthcare, our education system is sorely underfunded, and we're moving backwards on things like abortion and gay rights. We've got a police force in serious need of reform, not to mention a jail system in even MORE serious need of reform. You know what we're definitely number one in? Number of people incarcerated. And neither party is willing to reform either of these things. Both sides just want to give more money to police without any accountability. We have a two tier judicial system that favors the wealthy. Sure, if you're a white cis-male, christian, and born to a middle class family you're probably lucky. But a lot of people don't fit into those categories.

It was referenced earlier, but I kind of feel it deserves more than just a reference in taking a swipe at a dumb twitter account. Mass shooting in Buffalo. 13 shot, 10 dead.

Murderer was an 18 year old who drove 200 miles to a predominantly black neighborhood (selected because of this fact) wearing body armor and an assault weapon. Security guard failed to stop him because, you know, body armor and was killed. When police showed up he seemingly was going to shoot himself but was talked down and arrested. He self-identified as a white supremacist and anti-Semite and left behind a manifesto drawing heavily on the "Replacement Theory" and fucking livestreamed the massacre on Twitch.

I don't follow this pearl clutching. The problems with police in the US are the lack of accountability and oversight. The only fixes for these problems are busting of police unions which exist for the sole purpose of protecting bad cops, and enforcing body cams with incredibly strict requirements, so we have an accurate log of any interaction. Both of these solutions require additional money, especially since so much money has been allocated to useless "mental health" snake oil salesmen

They can allocate funds for the police elsewhere. They already have entirely too much money that's spend on bullshit they don't need. But none of this matters because Joe Biden had no intent to change anything about cops as they are, and he won't do anything to actually tangibly change it.

And shoveling more money at them won't fix anything if they can't make it work with the exorbitant amount of money they have. If you think the money wouldn't be completely misused then I don't know what to tell you. But as always, the police union is the major issue and nothing changes until they force changes on their reach.

There is literally no reason to give cops MORE money.

Cops need zero more dollars, police departments are better equipped than some countries, with less training, less oversight, and less accountability.

There's an ongoing history of the news media using language to make young white people sound more innocent and wayward, while young black people are referred to in ways that make them sound like knowing adult thugs. It goes beyond that, too. The twitter thread goes into pretty good detail. Word choice drives perception.
