Can someone explain in a concise way the specifics behind the leaked document? My interpretation was it was a draft writeup of a decision that they would use if the vote goes the way of overturning Roe v Wade, but when is that vote supposed to take place, and why would the outrage be there for what I would assume to be a standard process (preparing a draft writeup for either result)?

They have a preliminary vote before the draft opinions are written. The vote can change afterward but this was written as a majority opinion meaning the initial vote was to overturn.

The outrage over the act of the leak is fake outrage from the right because it breaks decorum.

The outrage over the leak from the left comes from the fact that the legal arguments presented in the draft are such that the court opinion invalidates a right to privacy, in that it specifically calls out the rights to interracial or gay marriage as also being things that states are allowed to outlaw.

I mean, there were interviews of people who said they were deciding between Bernie and Trump and Hillary was a non factor for this reason.

People were voting based on who they thought was saying things the common man was thinking which shows a huge flaw in how political discourse is carried out. It doesn't matter that one may be more authentic than the other, it shows a problem with what criteria people are using to decide who would be an effective leader

Which also shows how out of touch Hillary sounded compared to say Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. People whose policy positions I don't like all that much but who appealed to that same aspect.

And we probably have president Clinton 2.0 if the idiot actually campaigned in the Midwest

But yes our voters need to be smarter. This is proven because Republicans get elected and isn't actually news. But equating bernie who has a track record with someone who does not is not the same. It is voter ignorance. The system had let them down so long they were willing to trust a madman. I have spent 6 years roasting the madman but also that systemic failure matters a lot and so far the democrats as a whole are doing shit to change that.

Sure. Now tell us some other things those people believe are straight up untrue and let's see if they seem like good judges of reality or not.

(Anecdotally, I've also never heard "Trump cares about everyday people like me!" from a real life, non-internet Trumper. Their reasons are typically something (equally untrue, tbf) about him being a good businessman, or anti-corruption, or just the better of two bad candidates.)

the ship sailed long ago on "we're fucked" wrt climate.

I think my house won't be overtaken by rising sea levels until after I die but I might get to live to see it happen.

Which is part of the problem. For basically everyone in Congress they won't live to see the results of their inaction, and more often, the actual harm they've promoted so it's a far more abstract problem. Hell, a lot of them probably won't even be around for what should be history's greatest refugee crisis. They're already ignoring the climate refugees we've already had.

You keep hearing these reports about the severity of the water shortage in the Western states. Honestly, it's going to reach a true breaking point, isn't it? Speaking of absolutely awful internet/tech policies...

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/05/war-upon-end-to-end-encryption-eu-wants-big-tech-to-scan-private-messages/

The plan calls end-to-end encryption an important security tool but essentially orders companies to break that end-to-end encryption by whatever technological means necessary.

T-That's not how any of this works.

Only Republican politicians and conservative talking heads can convince Republican voters. Any one else telling them something that disagrees with their current views are liars, indoctrinated sheep or deep state pawns. It's all just fake news until their own people start pushing it.

And currently those talking heads are pushing that the environment isn't that bad and it's all just overblown by liberals to push their anti-corporate big government agenda

Wow that feels identical to the stuff George Orwell was warning about. They are watering down phrases to lessen the emotional impact. It's like the progression of shell shock -> battle fatigue -> post-traumatic stress disorder. At each step the term gets longer, sounds more technical, and loses emotional and descriptive power.

The implication is: the Dems want to bury this issue and not talk about it.

I think the problem is that all the words on the left side are words that have been used so much to trigger an angry and aggressive response from right wingers, who will get whipped up into a fury over them (while ultimately, whatever emotional response might come from the left won't matter because 35% of them will think "Yeah it's bad that abortion is under attack, but what about my student loans?" and the other 65% will think "Yeah it's bad that abortion is under attack, but what about the economy if they forgive student loans?") It's basically a desperate attempt to reshape the conversation using words that won't trigger a violent response from GOP voters, making them complacent and less likely to vote.

I do not bring you up for your sake, politically you are a lost cause, but as a reminder to the less politically lost in this topic that the policies and people you advocate for harm people and to be better than you. It is probably impossible to believe but there is no malice, Only a cautionary tale.
