Well, they are probably not going to succeed in getting rid of judicial review. At least, they are too early.

I mean, let's not forget that the right-wing machine was gearing up for Russia apologism in both the lead-up and early days of the conflict. It was only once: they couldn't peddle the absolute BS Russia was claiming even among their own audience, the news/photos/videos of horrific war crimes came out, and it became clear that Ukraine wasn't going to just fold inside a week that they pretended they were always pro-Ukraine.

They can pretend that that beginning part didn't happen but hell if we should let them.

Maybe it's time we take a page from their book with gun laws. "No federal court can overrule this. No state court can overrule this."

Loving the gutlessness of establishment Dems scolding people for protesting against this important issue in front of a Judge's house since the establishment Dems are doing nothing and can barely give a fuck about Roe v. Wade and just tell people to vote.

Like these assholes only care because it starts a precedent and they know they can be the next ones inconvenienced by the common people.

They defended the George Floyd protests because the rich weren't inconvenienced. They condemn this protest because it's against one of their own. Their concerns are entirely class-based.

I think it shocks people to find out judicial review is a uniquely American thing and not a part of most democracies, and if you step back a bit you can understand how 3 random people telling legislators that they cant pass laws is a little weird.

When the constitution falls, which seems like a when not if at this point, there is a decent argument the next government shouldnt have it even if it has benefited democrats in many cases

Judicial Review is fairly common around the world, Plum. The US has a fairly unique system of it in terms of how vast our court systems are. I have no idea why the hell you think we shouldn't have it, its a fairly basic check on power

If you compare the US, which has judicial supremacy in that theoretically there is no one that can overrule the Supreme Court absent a constitutional amendment and the UK, which has parliamentary supremacy in that Parliament can pass a regular new law that overrules any judicial decision, in both cases the supreme institution exercises great care in not changing things too much. The system is stable because of that. If Parliament legislated like the Louisiana legislature apparently thinks it proper to do, the UK system would rapidly descend into chaos like the French Revolution. Same would happen if the Supreme Court started striking down laws or creating new ones because they felt like it.

Ultimately, the stability comes from the top institution recognizing that their authority flows directly from their caution and reasonableness.

All of Trump's stupidity would be hilarious... if it were part of a tv show, and not part of real life where this is a man who could become President for four years come 2024. And that his entire party is exactly where he is on all the insane bullshit. Partly because his followers are also believers in the insane bullshit, and it's what they feel will get them elected.

And that come this year, this party will likely have control of the house of representatives thanks to years of gerrymandering and the fact that we give land more power than we give people. And let's not forget they already have control over the Supreme Court.

Maybe if somebody made a comedy TV show where the president did all these things that Trump suggested/said, then the public would see it as problematic.
