I am surprised by the number of old white women who support pro-life over pro-choice.

That just does not make any sense to me...do they not realize they are selling-out their own gender by taking that stance? Or am I missing something?

even though they had the advantages and security net of legal abortions their entire reproductive life

Probably the same women who still proudly support the Catholic church. You know, the same organization that has been the largest roadblock to women around the world for millennia. The same organization that does not allow women to hold any real positions of leadership.

I don't like this line of thinking. These people (women and minorities) have their own agency and can dislike these policies for reasons they themselves truly believe. I might think it's a bad opinion, but you're making it sound as if they were tricked into believing something. Some people just have bad opinions

The argument is that its murder. Its not complicated. Some people believe the act of murder is an extremely heinous thing. Doubly so when its a baby.

You can think murder is bad while also thinking certain crimes are deserving of death. Since presumably you dont consider the death penalty as murder.

An unborn child has yet to commit any crime. Thus, pro-lifers dont agree with abortion as it should not be punished for something it didnt do.

The larger issue is people not giving a fuck once its born, but being purposely obtuse on their stance is just weird and self-righteous.

Like these pundits go on TV and blatantly lie about what abortion even is (claims that people are killing live born babies, ignoring or downplaying medically necessary abortions, lying about frequency and how late in pregnancy they occur) to justify an abortion ban

I understand the systemic claim, but I guess I have a hard time going to the end point that having that abortion view is always due to the past.

Like, yes, much of our morality system is based on religion and in the past religion was (and still is) sexist. Leading to a morality that creates taboos for things that don't impact men as much as it might impact women.

At the end of the day though, it seems...demeaning to somehow act as if people today can't come to their (incorrect) positions of their own "free" will.

Like, I'll straight up say my own opinion. I do think abortion is ending a potential life, but I think a woman's right to choose to follow through with pregnancy overrides that right. Because pregnancy can be such a traumatic event and it shouldn't be forced. Therefore I'm heavily pro-choice.

If someone agreed with the first part of my opinion, but thinks that life has priority, I think they're wrong, but it's an actual opinion someone can come to.

They're wrong and they should be fighting for an increase in material and social nets so allow people to have children, and those that don't infuriate me and I'm sure for many of them it is about some form of control.
