Where does Cody go from here though? A title run like Roman's doesn't end anywhere outside Wrestlemania and WWE basically cut Cody's legs out from underneath him tonight.

I don't really think Cody was the guy either but I'm just kinda bored of the bloodline and Roman.

Depends on the longterm plan and endgame with Roman. If their goal is for him to break Hogan's record, I guess they'll continue the feud with Cody and probably bring Sami and Owens back into the title scene which can set up a few big matches (six man tags, title matches) before culminating at Summerslam with a four-way match where Roman wins the feud. Then the rest of the year Roman has a couple of short feuds with someone like McIntyre or Lashley (if Big E, AJ or Orton are back by then, they are also options).

After that depends on the availability on certain individuals. If they are finally able to ge the Rock for Mania 40, then they will obviously go for that. If not, then (if he's back by then) have Wyatt face him? I mean, I hate everything about Wyatt's character, but the guy is always over in some way with the fans and I think a lot of people would be hype for Wyatt winning the rumble and facing Roman. Otherwise, who else is there? Austin? Lesnar AGAIN? Maybe CM Punk has left AEW by then? We'd be getting to that point where unless they build someone new up by then Roman would have gone through almost every notable wrestler, by then.

At this point, the commentators would start doing their usual "Roman has been Universial Champion for XXX days, he's only XX days away from beating Hogan's record title reign" which make it super obvious he's breaking the record later that year. The question now becomes does he lose it shortly after breaking the record or at Mania 41?

Better answer, have him start going through the women's division and winning all of their titles too.

there's no endgame for roman. he's their guy. it's just going to be him until they've decided they have a new guy or roman is forced to stop. there will not be a satisfying end to all of this!

Yeah I don't see what story they can construct that would be more satisfying than Cody winning it. I don't really buy Jey, for instance.
