Well, we just found out my wife's grandmother passed away. It's kind of crazy to think we said goodbye to her this morning before we left to come back to Illinois. We knew she was sick, but we didn't realize it was that bad. I'm just glad she got to meet my son before she passed.

Now we're just going to rest up at home tonight and drive right back down to Georgia tomorrow.

Damn that sucks.

Also, I finally got around to watching the Violet Evergarden movie. Whew, I had forgotten how emotional this series could be. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending just because I generally don't like the I know you love me and I care about you but I don't deserve to see you or be with you so I'm just going to let you continue to exist in emotional torture without me trope, but other than that, good movie!

The romance in the VE movie's really bad. Wish they hadn't gone with the actually he's still alive lol direction. The parts of the movie not related to that are generally good at least.

Triangle Strategy Chapter 5 complete!

Whew, that battle was pretty rough. Thankfully with Roland's speed and high movement, I was able to get where he needed to go. I imagine you aren't intended to be able to wipe out every enemy there, at least not on a first playthrough.

R.I.P. Maxwell. I half expected a heroic sacrifice from him at some point, but I didn't think it would be so soon.

Wait, there are two Violet Evergarden movies AND an OVA? Guess I'll have to watch those now, too!

I had my second vote over the Scales of Conviction in Triangle Strategy. We voted to defend Roland and not hand him over to Aesfrost. That feels like the choice the game wants you to make here because I was able to convince everyone except Geela to switch pretty easily, and the game acted like getting anyone to switch the other way would be tremendously difficult.

Getting everyone to switch often isn't that hard, haha. Sometimes I've saved and persuaded everyone both ways just for fun.

There was a vote on my first playthrough where I couldn't convince anyone to switch over to one of the options. =(

I could get 7-0 for the other one but at best it was 3-4 against for the other.

Turns out not even Avlora can handle being covered in oil and set on fire! Fun battle though.

also the fact that they only found Maxwell's mask tells me he's alive and he'll either return as an amnesiac or with his identity hidden from the party since none of them know what he looks like

This is the first real footage of the game. It's kind of weird seeing a Sonic game without frantic pacing and an intense soundtrack to match, but I'm intrigued.

Also, we had our third vote with the Scales of Conviction in Triangle Strategy. I understood both sides on this one, but ultimately, I couldn't bring myself to trust Telliore, so we rejected his alliance.

You need a certain value of one of the conviction types to have a chance. I think Utility in that case? Probably a difference in responses you gave throughout the game to characters during explore phases.

Locked choices are always tied to stuff you find in the 'going around town talking to people/investigating' parts, I believe. If they're locked, you missed something. Some of the stuff is pretty hard to find and I had a good number locked throughout my playthrough.

Some of it just isn't available depending on choices you make. Like some information was only obtainable if you went to Aesfrost back in Chapter 3 (same with Hyzante ofc), etc.

The gameplay looks good, at least. I'm still not sold on the story and setting they're trying to sell.

Yeah it still feels like it's struggling to find identity but maybe we haven't seen enough yet.

I have enough faith in the ff14 team that I think this will turn out well, but I will admit the trailers so far dont have me as hype as Id have hoped

Triangle Strategy Chapter 9 complete!

That was the first battle that took me more than one attempt to win. Once I finally got why the blacksmith was recommended so he could make ladders to get us out of the valley more quickly, I was able to prevail, although I only had four left alive by the end.

In the last week, we've driven through Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Missouri.

Don't think I've ever done this much driving in such a short span of time.

I drove to california from florida but I think that's even less states

That was certainly the most intricate investigation yet. I hope we get more like that.

If you "fail" the investigation you get to go to trial and present the evidence which is fun in its own way.

This time, I am able to secure the needed votes for the Scales of Conviction from everyone except Anna. I admit I am curious to see how it plays out if you turn over the Roselle, but I'm trying to make the decisions I would personally make this time around and I certainly couldn't in good conscience do that myself.

Also I'm realizing that Triangle Strategy is a lesson to The Phantom Menace that a story about trade agreements and embargoes actually can be entertaining...!

Speaking of the prequels, Episode III was on TV and my wife decided she wanted to watch the second half of it because she's trying to grasp the Star Wars story better, especially as we watch the Obi-Wan show. I think we'll end up doing a movie rewatch once the show finishes airing.
