For example: $27/hour = $56,000/year

They're roughly the same thing, but $27/hour looks like good money, while $56,000/year looks like chump money.

Example 2:
$35/hour: Wow, so rich!
$73,000/year: It's... decent.

that really only applies if you're new to being on salary, i think.

when i hear "$25/hour" i automatically convert that to "$50k/year" and think "meh".

there absolutely is. it does not take "skill" in any capacity to run a cash register or stock shelves.

Yep, but these antilabor drones don't want to admit that.

Because hourly pay is compared to things that are typically measured in hourly pay, skilled and unskilled labor.

Yearly pay gets compared to non-labor jobs like various levels of management, executives and other such things.

Yep. Pretty much every salary position I've known someone work has meant mandatory overtime.

Ok, all labor requires some kind of skill. The term that should be used in that article is "Specialized skill"

Dude it doesnt. Ringing people up, moving boxes, doing labor, those things do not require skill. They require having a body and a basic functioning brain. It may take hard work but it isnt a skill

Let's clarify: Ringing someone up is a skill, but it's a skill that anybody can learn with little effort. Which is why we have the term "skilled labor", and the context attached to it.

Internet people have an awful habit of taking literal interpretations, myself included.

typically, "skilled" jobs will have some training or education as a prerequisite for being hired, while "unskilled" jobs do not.

do you really think it takes "skill" to stock shelves? the cash register thing doesn't apply IMO because you can be hired with no prior knowledge or experience in that field.

Stocking shelves is a skill, just like most things. You can learn and improve how you do it. Low skill is a much more appropriate term than unskilled. They're still skills, but with very low ceilings.
